Subject: Erin Gra Mo Chroi From: GUEST,mbirch Date: 22 May 02 - 02:32 AM Does anyone know who wrote this song ? It's been recorded by Dervish and Cherish the Ladies, and their cd's say it is a "traditional" song - I'm not buying it. I'd appreciate some real information, thanks... |
Subject: RE: Erin Gra Mo Chroi From: MartinRyan Date: 22 May 02 - 02:38 AM Its certainly not recent, anyway. I'll check what's known, if anything. Regards |
Subject: RE: Erin Gra Mo Chroi From: GUEST,Martin Ryan Date: 22 May 02 - 06:13 AM There's an amazing number of recordings of this available! The version that's been going round in my head is from Sarah & Rita Keane (Dolores's aunts) but Joe Heaney also recorded it. Presumably 19 C. American in origin - so it depends what you mean by "traditional"! Like a number of other songs, it seems to have re-emigrated. Regards |
Subject: RE: Erin Gra Mo Chroi From: Wolfgang Date: 22 May 02 - 06:39 AM The same question remained without answer in this old thread. The lyrics, however, are there, if someone missed them here. Wolfgang |

Subject: RE: Erin Gra Mo Chroi From: GUEST,Bullfrog Jones (on the road) Date: 23 May 02 - 05:38 AM I've got it by Steeleye Span circa '98 with Gay Woods on vocals. It's 'Trad' there too. She says she learnt it from her brother, Terry Corcoran, who 'spent many years in America'. BJ |
