Some of you may know the story of the Peace Feather, from either my song, Anna Curtis' books, or other tellings of the day that the Mohawks came to kill the Quakers in the Easton Meeting, and we welcomed them in peace and became friends.
Well the new powers taken in volation of the Constitution as interpreted by Socialist Worker's Party v. the Attourney General, a case argued by and old friend of mine, not very long ago, which found that the first amendment rights of US citizens are violated by the presence of law enforcement coming to our church services and political gatherings to spy... well what is the point of rule of law if a "president" "elected" in one of the most dodgy elections of all time can with a stroke of the pen egnore the courts and constitution?
Never since Jackson said of the Supreme Court, when the would not let him kill Georgia's Native nations, "The Court has ruled now let them enforce the decsion..." has there been such a blaitant grab for power and a trammeling of this nation's legal traditions.
Well, that being said, now that our meetings are to have warlike people there with no intention to acknowlege the presence of god in our midsts, well, we will likely welcome them as we did the Mohawks, and if that is not a threat to the FBI, I don't know what is! THey may wind up with a bunch a god fearing Quaker agents!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yours in the light (and the one big union!!!), Larry

I didn't want to say so in the last thread that mentioned this, because it was an Obit thread and I didn't want to degrade it with a joke.

But so far as I can see, the deciding factor in the original story was Zebulon Hoxie, the Quaker who faced the Indians so calmly. The Mohawks clearly realised that a guy with a name like was not a man to be lightly crossed.

You just don't get churchmen with impressive names like that any more - if more churches had pastors with names like Zebulon Hoxie, the world would be a better place!!!!

Right you are!!! My friend you mention, Eugene, grew up next door to Hoxie's house, which still stands. We just don't get great names like that often in meetings, though we do have an Eliazer (who I refer to as Jocko as he wears a gorilla t-shirt...) I don't see calling Zeb Hozie Jocko though... he'd just give you that "have a seat, Mohawk brother's" stare and you'd feel pretty foolish!!!
