Monkey's audio is LOSSLESS compression, which means you can turn it back to a wav and it will lose nothing, perfect for copying a music library that you actually want to listen to. Of course, that means it doesn't go as small as mp3. Ogg Vorbis is my favorite format right now. At 128 kbps, which is sort-of the "standard" for mp3, an ogg file is slightly smaller and sounds better than an mp3. I look forward to the technology's maturation. |

Subject: RE: New Format: Ogg Vorbis From: treewind Date: 02 Jun 02 - 06:20 PM Try this: http://www.monkeysaudio.com/ and http://www.ogg-vorbis.com/ for clickies that (might) work... As far as Ogg is concerned, I don't know if "maturity" is quite the right word for what it needs - widespread support and adoption is the thing - the more software can read and encode it, the more it'll get used. Ogg and monkeys audio are better if you want to encode stuff yourself, like your own music. If you want to get other people's music for free, go with mp3 as it's currently the most popular. |
