Subject: Used to Sit around and sing about booze From: GUEST,CBJames Date: 05 Jun 02 - 11:18 PM "Now I sing about what ever I use" I think John Hartford wrote this ? Is there more? Like: "Used to get high and listen to the Beatles Ain't as much fun now, that it's legal" or: "You get the milk and I'll get the cookies we'll get high and have a little nookie" In the great irony of parenting teenagers to whom I will never admit my wanton past, I find myself desperate to confirm my roots with songs I can only sing to myself until they are grown up, gone away to school and all that. Any body know the full lyrics to this one? Hartford also sang a lovely song which started out very low and finished several squeaky octaves higher. Any Lyrics out there for that one? Thanks James |

Subject: RE: Used to Sit around and sing about booze From: Sorcha Date: 05 Jun 02 - 11:29 PM This (CLICK) is all I found and it's a bit complicated..........first, go to the site I linked to. Then, right click the mouse anywhere on the screen. Choose "Properties", maximize the Properties window and just keep scrolling down. I think eventually you will get to the lyrics of this song.........they are embedded and hidden behind all the mess on the site. Sorry, that is the best I could do. Maybe harpgirl will have more. No idea what you mean about the other song. |
Subject: Lyr Add: GRANNY WONTCHA SMOKE SOME MARIJUANA From: GUEST,Anahootz Date: 06 Jun 02 - 12:11 AM CB- The tune whose lines you quote is: GRANNY WONTCHA SMOKE SOME MARIJUANA As recorded by John Hartford on "Nobody Knows What You Do" (1976)
1. When it gets dry and you wanna get high,
CHORUS: Granny, woncha smoke some, Granny, woncha smoke some,
2. Now, I used to sit around and sing about booze.
3. Now, you get the milk and I'll get the cookies.
4. Hey, Moe, light that bowl,
5. Gramps sittin' in the den smokin' a Havana.
6. Crying, down on my knees:
7. Well, we used to get high and listen to the Beatles. |

Subject: RE: Used to Sit around and sing about booze From: Joe Offer Date: 06 Jun 02 - 07:20 PM So, is there a connection with John Hartford, or not? -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Used to Sit around and sing about booze From: GUEST,anahootz Date: 06 Jun 02 - 08:00 PM Yeah, of course there is. It's a hartford tune...just like "don't leave your records in the sun" and "steam powered aeroplane" and his ode to bob marley, "two hits and the joint turned brown" "granny woncha" is on his "nobody knows what I do" album, if memory serves me correctly |
Subject: RE: Used to Sit around and sing about booze From: GUEST Date: 11 Jun 08 - 10:17 AM I think the 3rd verse on the album version is "Well the kids are a prayin' and looking for Nirvana Granny's out looking for some marijuana" |
