Subject: Sleepy all the time From: 53 Date: 22 Jun 02 - 07:37 PM It seems as though I'm sleepy all the damn time. I must be on the downswing of my illness. Does anybody else suffer from this? I'll be glad when the other side comes rollin around again. Bob |
Subject: RE: Help: Sleepy all the time From: GUEST,mg Date: 22 Jun 02 - 07:46 PM I do...I can barely get out of bed in the morning and can never get enough sleep...do you have a blood sugar monitor? If not, I suggest getting one and tracking your blood sugar and keeping a food diary. Try eating more frequently with protein and fat and green vegetables at each small meal and drink lots of water. Of course see a doctor. Take your temperature every morning in bed before you get up and write it down. Take your temperature every four hours you are up. You might see patterns or someone else might. Ask your doctor to have you take a salivary adrenal hormone test..it can reveal a lot. (confirmed what I knew about myself..I am just not pumping adrenaline..and I always knew I had low blood sugar and insulin resistance.) mg |

Subject: RE: Help: Sleepy all the time From: Liz the Squeak Date: 22 Jun 02 - 07:49 PM I've just come through a spell of falling asleep at 8.00pm and waking at 7.00am, guess it was body's way of saying 'fuck you world, I need a rest'. There could be several reasons though. Get your blood tested for thyroid conditions, glandular fever or diabetes. Do you wake up more tired than when you went to bed? Try turning your matress around or over. Don't eat less than an hour before you sleep, whilst we sleep our digestive system still works and that uses a lot of energy, stimultating the brain into thinking we're moving. I've now got into the pattern of being asleep at about 4.00pm and waking at 5 or 6.00pm. Bit awkward if I don't leave work till 4.45pm.... Hope it sorts soon, take care. LTS |
Subject: RE: Help: Sleepy all the time From: katlaughing Date: 22 Jun 02 - 07:51 PM Have your doctor check the dosages and types of any meds you might be on, Bob. They could be causing drowsiness and/or need to be changed, BUT don't do anything without checking with your doc first! Also, do you sleep well? If not, you should have your oxygen satuaration rate checked to rule out sleep apnea. Depression can bring about sleepiness, from what I've experienced and seen in others. Good luck, kat |
Subject: RE: Help: Sleepy all the time From: GUEST,well wisher Date: 22 Jun 02 - 09:32 PM ...53, if you have sleep apnea, that might account for not only your sleepiness but also your depression...have a sleep study done...you might need a cepac (sp) machine...a well wisher |
Subject: RE: Help: Sleepy all the time From: Mickey191 Date: 22 Jun 02 - 09:37 PM Is it possible you may have sleep apnea? After a couple of years of living in the half life-no energy-sleepy even an hour after awakening, I tape recorded my sleep sounds. Heard myself stop breathing-then gasping for air.I stopped breathing over 600 times a nite. I now have a cpap machine-sleep thru the night-feeling much better. Have more energy.Just a thought. Good Luck! |
Subject: RE: Help: Sleepy all the time From: GUEST Date: 22 Jun 02 - 09:55 PM ...great minds think alike...the easiest way to test this hypothesis, as 191 says is to record your breathing sounds while you are asleep....or glenda can do it!! get going 53, you could get better with a correct diagnosis of the reason for your depression! |
Subject: RE: Help: Sleepy all the time From: DancingMom Date: 22 Jun 02 - 10:45 PM A few conditons could be the cause of the trouble, among them sleep apnea. Falling asleep during the day, morning headaches, irregular heart rhythms are classic signs, especially if you carry some excess weight. (as most of us do). If you know you snore, get an overnight sleep study to see if this is a problem. Others can include hypothyroidism and anemia. If you are able, a little exercise each day, even a short walk, can do wonders to revive the body and mind. Good luck. Sharon |
Subject: RE: Help: Sleepy all the time From: MMario Date: 23 Jun 02 - 12:57 AM Bob - I always seemed groggy and sleepy on my downside; often couldn't sleep when "up" |
Subject: RE: Help: Sleepy all the time From: Mudjack Date: 23 Jun 02 - 01:18 AM If your med/coverage includes sleep lab study, by all means do it, sleep apnea sufferers are at high risk for strokes and other risks such as falling asleep at the wheel. I have been on a breathing machine for 2 1/2 years and must say a good night sleep means getting up and feeling awake and having energy is worth the trouble of wearing and using the CEPAP. The sleep lab and machine cost my health plan about $5000 big ones. Mudjack |
Subject: RE: Help: Sleepy all the time From: Kaleea Date: 23 Jun 02 - 01:20 AM Do I ever identify! Since the kid rear-ended me over a year ago, I sleep little. I'm lucky to get 3-4 hours, and then in spurts. The pain, the worries over medical bills, the wondering if I will ever be able to play music without being in pain, if I can ever work full time & not go on disability! However, according to 60 minutes the majority of folks old & young in our American nation (& many others) are sleep deprived because of too much activity shoved into their day. Hope it gets better for you! But hey, if you're unable to sleep, at least you've got mudcat to keep you company. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help: Sleepy all the time From: GUEST Date: 23 Jun 02 - 01:55 AM Mr. 53, What precisely IS your illness? |
Subject: RE: BS: Help: Sleepy all the time From: GUEST Date: 23 Jun 02 - 01:57 AM I concur with the guest above. Without specifics, a diagnosis is impossible. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help: Sleepy all the time From: 53 Date: 23 Jun 02 - 09:30 AM This would be a great title for a song, I haven't thought about that. Bob |
Subject: RE: BS: Help: Sleepy all the time From: VoxFox Date: 23 Jun 02 - 09:39 AM 53, have you been tested for Mono? I had that a few years back and all I wanted to do was sleep. I would get up long enough to get the boys off to school and then die the rest of the day until they got home from school. This went on for about three months till I decided to go to the doctor.(Ihate going hence the long time). He tested me for Mono and sure enough! Man, I felt so stupid as I have no idea where I got it. My family didn't have it, just me.(Spaw, don't say a word, I'm a good girl *BG*) Anyway all you can do is rest but don't let it go as it plays havoc with your spleen. Just a suggestion, cause ya never know! Hope it's not real serious. Marjie |
Subject: RE: BS: Help: Sleepy all the time From: 53 Date: 23 Jun 02 - 05:30 PM NO I don't have Mono. I believe its coming from all the meds I have to take. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help: Sleepy all the time From: RichM Date: 23 Jun 02 - 06:56 PM If you are taking antidepressants or anti anxietants, this might be the cause. These seem to require occasional fine tuning of dosages, or even a change in medication. I have been through this process with antidepressants. The first step is to tell your doctor about your sleep problem. It can be resolved.
