Subject: Sunset Song by Dougie MacLean From: GUEST,Bill Kennedy Date: 01 Jul 02 - 11:03 AM anybody out there familiar enough with both Lewis Grassic Gibbon's trilogy 'Scots Quair' and Dougie MacLean's 1993 cd 'Sunset Song', to know if it (Dougie's) is worth hunting for? I am a big Lewis Grassic Gibbon fan, and like much of what I've heard of Dougie, but I just remember ordering the 'Brendan's Voyage' lp many years ago and being very disappointed in the total work, it had one lovley melody and the rest was forgettable (to me). It's hard to know how translations from literature to music will end up, & we know how difficult translations from language to language within literature are. I'll write a review if I find a copy before long, but would love to hear from someone who has heard it. |
