Having difficulty locating Malvina Reynold's "Did Jesus Have A Sister (little baby sister)" in sheet music and folk music online catalogs.

Any suggestions?

Hi, had this on something taped for me by someone I have now lost touch with. Would appreciate being reminded of band and album as well. I remember some of the lyrics, which may or may not really follow each other:

Did Jesus have a baby sister? Was she picked up? Was she sweet? Or was she told by Mother Mary, did she whisper Save your breath?

The tone seemed to be about how neglected a younger sib of the Christ Child would have been, how Mary would have had no time for her, and so on. Thanks!

Thanks, Mmario; any others? The album I had it on was a group, not an individual woman singing, and it also had Ukelele Lady, if that helps anyone locate the one I'm seeking...

The song was written by Dory Previn, and we had a thread recently on her with some links to her sites. Try searching "Mythical kings and Iguanas" . Other wise be patient and I'll pull it up.
As I recall, the song has the sister looking at herself in a mirror and saying "Savior woman? Savior person? Saviorette? Save your breath!"
Blessings,
Barbara

Two thoughts.

First I know a baby who could be Jesus come again, she is so sweet and loving---except that as I looked at her thinking this, one day, I realized that Jesus' message had much more punch coming from a man-- since women are supposed to be so loving and forgiving, He had to be a man, for His message to be heard at all, especally in the culture of the time.

Second, here's one example how BS really gets into a music thread. Not only is the preceding thought related to the things I would thik about and maybe use to intro the song if I did it--- but the REAL reason I opened this thread is that at 5AM when I first saw it, half asleep and fuzz-eyed, I read it as "Did Jesus Have a babySITTER?" Now that was just too funny to contain for more than eight and a half hours-- if I don't post it here I may burst something and keel over!!! Think about it! Did Jesus have a babysitter???

The punctuation is Ms. Previn's. I just (two days ago) found this on an LP I've been schlepping around with me in a trunk since 1975 or so ... Interesting coincidence that it suddenly appears on a Mudcat thread.

DID JESUS HAVE A BABY SISTER?
(Dory Previn)
C. 1974 Pawprint Music/Unart Music Corp.'Mayday Music, Inc. (BMI)

did jesus have a baby sister?
was she bitter?
was she sweet?
did she wind up in a convent?
did she end up on the street?
on the run?
on the stage?
did she dance
did he have a sister?
a little baby sister?
did jesus have a baby sister?
did she speak out
by and large?
or was she told by mother mary
ask your brother, he's in charge
he's the chief
he's the whipped cream
on the cake
did he have a sister
a little baby sister?
did jesus have a sister?
did they give her a break?
her brother's birth announcement
was pretty big
pretty big
i guess
while she got precious
little notice
in the local press
her mother was the virgin
when she carried him
carried him
therein
if the little girl came later
then
was she conceived in sin?
and in sorrow?
and in suffering?
and in shame?
did jesus have a sister?
what was her name?

did she long to be the saviour
saving everyone
she met?
and in private to her mirror
did she whisper
saviourette?
saviourwoman?
saviourperson?
save your breath!
did he have a sister?
a little baby sister?
did jesus have a sister?
was she there at his death?

and did she cry for mary's comfort
as she watched him
on the cross?
and was mary too despairing
ask your brother
he's the boss
he's the chief
he's the man
he's the show
did he have a sister?
a little baby sister?
did jesus have a sister? doesn't anyone know?

Wonderful. Somewhere on the same spectrum is Linda Allen's song, "Wouldn't It Be Nice". I only remember the chorus (and once again I've started a post without checking the DT first -- oops)

Wouldn't it be nice if the next Jesus Christ
Came down, came down as a woman
Oh, what would people say if it happened that way
Could mankind be saved by a woman?

Aloha,
Mark

Of course, *some* of us believe mankind is saved by woman just about every day... ;-} ww

Who obviously needs to spend more time at her computer at home, all my latest postings have been from work. Anyway. Thanks! This is it! And speaking of misheard lyrics - Savior woman? Savior person? Saviorette? Save your breath!" has very little to do with what I was hearing, so thanks, all!
