Some more stuff about Cara & the church=
Cara=Threee talented musicians, comprising Dave (Fiddle & Mandolin), Mike(Pipes,Whistles, Guitars and Vocals) and John (Guitar and Cittern). They play original arrangements of traditional Celtic material as well as their own compositions.
The Cherch=The towers of Holy Trinity will be opened to the public next weekend as part of Hull Civic Socirtys Open House Weekend.
The Church towers are not usually open to the public, so this is a rare oppurtunity" says Civic Society member Ian Lodge."The 150ft tower at Holy Trinity has recently been restored, although admission is free, people climbing the church tower will be asked to make a £1 donation to raise funds for further restoration work.

Maggie and I are hoping to be there. If anybody fancies a session afterwards, might I suggest The Black Boy in High Street.

I go up the first 81 steps of the tower to the Ringing room every week... the view from the roof is brill... out past the Deep and across the river... I've been up to the next floor & wound the clock a couple of times... and once went right up to the top to see the bells... I don't think I'll be in Hull on saturday but if I am I'll be up the tower at least part of the day helping show people the ropes!

oh and by the way John... if you see more than one tower you've drunk too much!!

No ta, I'd don't want to be seen hanging on ropes. Round where I live I could wake up on a three skys'l yarder bound for Cape Horn.

Those of you who couldn't make it missed a treat! The weather was glorious; I sat in dappled shade outside Holy Trinity (not quite a Minster, but the largest parish church in England)and listened to several hours of wonderful music. Thanks, Cara. Willa (No computer at present)

Yes, excellent stuff. The fragrant One and I caught the end of Cara's set, and then we we're seduced into a public house, and it sort of went downhill for us from then on!

Yes -well I sorted out a couple of mortgages and an abused bank account -counted a couple of grand and archived the computer -it was much more fun than listening to Oakley's lot in the dappled shade of Market Square and then going for a cool alcoholic beverage at a local hostelry. I must get a life.

You are welcome Willa; thanks for being there. Between the three of us in Cara, we could only come up with one thing that qualified as a better way of spending a mid-day. That was me, and it was disallowed for legal reasons. We had a wonderful, really wonderful afternoon.

So the potato orchestra performed al fresco, did they? Eric's knack of booking buildings that boast inside temperatures 20 degrees cooler than ambient has reached new extremes, obviously. Couldn't hear you two miles to the s'uthard, so to use the vernacular, pump up the volume next time!

Follow recent advice, whacker!

Gary

Sounds fun- makes one wish one was a 'local' (almost...)

What prompted me to post though is: How does Willa post here without a computer?? I know you have your own telephones and stuff in 'Ull; do all locals now have chips implanted on the local rates?

:0) Thanks John, I'll look out for the DeppO when I'm in Hull for Kingston upon Hull's 13th International Sea Shanty Festival -don't know if I've mentioned it, but The Shellback Chorus are appearing there this year: another connection with Hull! (If it's not been mentioned before, it surely will again...)

Hull have spent serious money in advertising costs for celebrating the Deep as the finest aquarium in the land -What a waste of money- when all that was needed was a national advertising campaign using John from Hull's inimitable expression 'WE GOY A BIG FIS DEEP SEE MUSEUM' -they would be flocking in their thousands!!!!

Linda, I know about these things. As the noted submarium and a certain Hollywood actor share the same name, how about those immortal words being uttered by our own Mr Depp? I'm sure that they could come up with a satisfying link between the actor and the fishy city. I can see the image and the speech bubble containing John's copy (as they call it) emblazened upon the the engine cowlings of buses throughout the East Riding of Yorkshire. And John would never have to work again.
