Could be stretching the word entertainer a bit far John!

Never-the-less it is a great opportunity to raise the folk profile in Beverley - and it's cerainly worth the bus fare from Hull or wherever if you win some money.

I'm pretty sure that I'll have a go myself, either alone or with one or two of the sessioneers that we play with most weeks.

Go for it, everyone.Wish I was free that day, I'd have a crack. Went to a similar do in Bolton once for a laugh, played a couple of tunes and walked away with five hundred notes. easiest money I've ever earned in my life.

Yes perhaps you are right Roger, I think I should take my shaky egg as well, I will phone the organisers straight away, and book a spot as a multi-instrumentalist.I wonder if I could learn to jiggle before August, I would have a go now but the only fruit I have got is bannannas, I will go to the fruit shop and buy a few oranges, I will report back in a couple of hours and let you know how it goes.

well, I bought some oranges, but it did not go too well.I dropped them on my coffee table, knocking over a pile of CD's and nearly smashing my tellyphone and I woke my hamster up.Maybe I will try something else, like standing on my head or something.john

I've mentioned this to The Fragrant One, and she's up for it. So Rog, this could be another LMR gig, or we could just enter as the Kingston Duo if you're making other arrangements. I'm not sure that we could compete with John's jiggling, though.

John

Have a look at this thread concerning
the wiggling of jelly. I can't help thinking that this is what you may have been subconciously thinking of when you mentioned 'jiggling' above (jiggle may well be the appropriate verb for the wiggling of jelly). If so, maybe it is still not too late to perfect this skill in time for Beverley...

Just a thought :-))

It was a really, really good day. For yours truly, a splendid three hours on a rusty bicycle and four playing outside Thomas Cook beneath a cloudless sky. Skipjack and Bloke in the Corner, gave a erm solid performance. Les and Maggie were allocated a spot which wasn't ideal and I met two 'Catters who played hurdy gurdy and Swedish fiddle and I was entranced. And the prizes were given by the famous woman off the telly.

Winning was irrelevant, the winners were those who were treated to 20-odd entertainers (some of whom were very odd). But for the record, Punch the Horse (extra points for my shapely lower limbs of course) and John and Chrissie won runners up prizes (undisclosed sums was for tax reasons). It is not the winning, it is the taking part. And who ponced off with the £500? Some bastards dressed in black, who now have a huge scratch down the side of their Mondeo Estate. As I said, its not the winning its the taking part that matters.

It was so scorching that I've been nursing sunburn all night (allergic to sun cream before anyone says anything).

It was barefaced gall on my part to go with the nyckelharpa as I only know three tunes on it (had it two weeks) and I can jam with Toni on the gurdy. Interestingly I made virtually nothing by playing standard fiddle, but got crowds every time I picked up the nyckelharpa - lesson there is learn loads of tunes on harpa and leave fiddle at home.

I always wanted to see if I could earn money busking - just in case I ever lose the day job! Looks like I would be OK.

It was a fun - but very hot day! Congrats to Punch the Horse and the other catters who got prizes.

Cheers Sarah

There should be two catagories, one for juniors, and one for adults. The adults don't stand a chance whene there's kids performing as they all walked away with 1st 2nd & 3rd prizes. Its not sour grapes, its just that, there should have been more runners up prizes for adults who took part. We had a wonderfull time anyway. John&Christine.

I though you were both magnificent, John and Chris, especially your announcements about the price of lamb chops and rump steak that punctuated your musical journey. We had an accordianist from the busking private sector opposite us. Tulips from Amsterdam all afternoon. Watching Ossonflags gently simmering on a low boil was a complete joy.

I'd do it again next year, but would try to get Ossonflags to do some break-dancing dressed as a 14 year old hip dude, not dressed as a curmudgeonly angler.

Come on harpmaker!!!

Wasnt it a great day??

Categories indeed.why not go the the full hog and have a section for those amped up,or not, penalty points for winos annoying them, other than the competitors that is!!

Taking part and enjoing is the name of the game.

Personaly speaking,I had a brilliant day and contrary to the what the lovely oakley says, realy relished having an accordianist playing near us playing differant songs to the ones I was singing, really sharpens you up that!!

I think what is really important is that kids are participating in this stuff and keeping entertainment live, that is what we are all about isnt it?

Congratulations are in order for all those who had the bottle to take part.

From me and Punch the Horse,to everyone,WELL DONE!!!!!!!!

well -what can one say about the purple helmet pyrotechnic display down Hengate?- Must have used the same gunpowder supplier as Guy Fawkes -pathetic! Call yourself a display team? The gathered throng were really up for it, and apart from a couple of puffs of smoke which could have been as a result of Oakley's legs rubbing together - there wasn't even so much as a spark -I want my money back!!!!!

What a weekend! Lost me busking virginity, solidly, apparently. Lawrie (Bloke in the Corner) and I appeared as 'Waggler', complete with a menu board of songs, dreamt up by twelve drink-sodden advertising executives the night before. We had a great pitch away from most other acts, apart from one that Oaklet has already descibed as odd (not that we were that even).

We found that hackneyed old songs had the tears plopping on the flags, and the cash rolling in, but tunes (even played well!) didn't seem to hook the punters in, as Sarah has said about the fiddle tunes. Yet Oakers reports even money between tunes and song. Depends who's going by at the time, I suppose.

Waggler performed again on Saturday night, at the Carnival, in Barton, and yesterday saw another Purple Helmet Binge Drinking and Cycling Display, with added damp squib pyrotechnics. I fear a greater outrage is planned......

I managed to wobble home and save my current marriage by arriving 11 and a half minutes late for the family meal, and then downed the last of 9 pints with Doug Chadwick (good man, himself), and the divine Tina Cook at Wooton, with Banjo Flower, Smallpiper and Nik-Nak in attendance.

There's nothing so queer, as ten pints of beer, for messing around with your liver...........

Gary

Smallpiper, I never like to miss anything, but I ran out of steam and became a little gloomy later on, so I went home. Some of the pain that I feel this morning is a result of laughing with you yesterday afternoon. About light sabres and other things. Will you stop this kind of behaviour please. DeanMeister will have no alternative to split us up next time.
