Hi all, Am I right in thinking that Harvey Andrews wrote a song called "too much stuff" or similar about the evils of living in the free market :)

If so can anyone tell me where I can find the words or what album its on.

Harvey, if you are reading this I promise my interest is non-profit making.

AWM

Blimey! not even a message from GUEST inviting me to try a Google search???

If its any help all I can remember is the first two lines of the chorus which went

I don't want any more stuff,
I've got enough

help? anyone?

Give some more information:
1. When did you hear it?
2. Where did you hear it - radio, live, bar, country?
3. Style - ballad, swing, rock, folk
4. Why Harvey Andrews ?

Minstrel: I don't see any track on either CD on the Harvey Andrews website that seems as if it's the song you seek, so why not ask the guy yourself? The "Guestbook" page says that questions are welcome! Here's the page: http://www.harveyandrews.com/guestbook.html

...and, yes, I DID find it with Google! *grin*

Subject: Lyr Add: STUFF (Harvey Andrews)
From: harvey andrews

Sorry it's in capitals, I just copied it from my file.
It's probably going on the next CD. The second verse was prophetic wasn't it! I suppose it's a bit preachy but the knowledge that George Bush would consider it seditious counterbalances that fact for me!

STUFF

CHORUS: Well, I've got enough. It fills every drawer.
I've got enough stuff, so enough is enough.
See, it spills on the floor, and I know that it's tough
On the shop and the store, but I've got enough.
I'm sorry it's rough. I don't need any more.

Now that capital's king, we're on a merry-go-round.
Everyone have a fling and the jobs will be found.
There's a colour each day for our mobile phone.
We're just a credit card number. We are what we own.

The trucker's truckin' all day to fill the shopping mall.
If we don't buy his load, the share price will fall.
If the shares go down, that's the pension gone,
So it's buy all their junk, boys. Look after number one.

We've a million choices. Every one is the same.
And we've all got to buy them. It's the name of the game.
If they make it to last us only one whole day,
Then we can use it, abuse it, fuse it, throw it away.

Just remember the Chinese: They don't have very much,
And they all want a car and a freezer and such,
But if they ever get them, it's goodbye to the earth.
With no air to breathe and the ozone gone, what's our damned stuff worth?

Changed from all caps. --JoeClone, 15-Jul-02.

Subject: Lyr Add: OTHER SHORE (from Austin Lounge Lizards)
From: beadie
Date: 12 Jul 02 - 04:40 PM

Not "too much stuff," but in a similar vein...

THE OTHER SHORE (performed in an a-cappella gospel style)

As we reach the twilight hours of our fleeting earthly time,
And know we will not see the sun tomorrow,
We may think with deep regret of all the things we leave behind,
But oh, my friends, do not give in to sorrow.

On the other shore, on the other shore,
We will reunite with all the things we ever owned before.
Our single socks will all be to their rightful pairs restored.
We'll meet all our possessions on the other shore.

As we near those golden sidewalks floating on the clouds above,
Assuming heaven is our destination,
We may glance behind for one last look at everything we love,
But truly there's no call for reservations.

On the other shore, on the other shore,
We'll have piles and piles of jeans we can't fit into any more.
We'll wear all those crazy cowboy shirts we got from Fred Labour.
We'll meet all our possessions on the other shore.

We'll find books we bought in college and sold for half-price unread,
And sacks and sacks of earring backs lost under someone's bed,
And baseball cards and army men and model planes galore,
And every tiny plastic high-heel Barbie ever wore.

On the other shore, on the other shore,
We'll have giant storage units free of charge forevermore,
Where our tax receipts will all be saved in bags upon the floor.
We'll meet all our possessions

On the other shore, on the other shore,
We'll find National Geographics from 1974.
Our children's art will cover God's refrigerator door.
We'll meet all our possessions on the other shore.

The song was performed by the Austin Lounge Lizards on their album, "Employee of the Month."

HTML line breaks added. --JoeClone, 15-Jul-02.

Harvey,

Many Many thanks! Promise I'll buy the next album to hear it.

I'm sure Mr Bush would be delighted to have it all at advantageous interest :)
