Watched "The Gathering Storm" last night(July 12th) on BBC2 with Albert Finney as Churchill and Vanessa Redgrave as Clementine. Finney was absolutely incredible as Churchill down to the mannerisms and voice. All future impersonations of him will have to be measured against that performance. He even looked so similar to him. A great peformance also from Vanessa who looked very much like the original. Both of them certainly deserve an award when the time comes around. Albert Finney is one of the great underrated actors of the present day.

Gosh you're quick off the mark, I videod this program and Midsomer murders, and managed to fall asleep over One foot in the grave. I've got a long week end on duty to watch them so looking forward to it.

I have to agree.I hardly ever watch TV but that was an amazing portrayal by anyone's standards, even if the true story was jazzed up a little.

Interesting to hear 'Winston' singing Wrap me up in me tarpaulin jacket- I wonder was there a record that he knew this song, or what the significance was? Minor point, I know, but it jumped out at me as this was the song my father-in-law requested to be sung at his funeral.

A very good programme.

Finny played Winny to perfection, it was also good to see Ronnie Barker back on TV. I read, this was the first TV he has done since 1987.

This is one of the few times I wished I owned a TV. My mother said she'd tape it but I bet she forgets.
