Subject: Crimean War Tune: Sir Colin Campbell... From: Turpen_David_T@fs811.npt.nuwc.navy.mil Date: 13 Jan 97 - 10:57 AM This is a pipe tune whose full title is "Sir Colin Campbell's Farewell to the Crimea", also known as "The Forty and Twa" and "Robbie Ross". I'm looking for any words that exist to the tune, which was written during the Crimean War in 1854 or '55. Thanks, Dave Turpen |
Subject: RE: Crimean War Tune: Sir Colin Campbell... From: Ian Date: 13 Jan 97 - 06:02 PM Dave, Here are a couple of thoughts that may be helpful... There is a song called "The Gallant Forty Twa" that might be what you're looking for. The Chorus is: Strolling through the green fields on a summer day Watching all the country girls working at the hay I really was delighted and he stole my heart awa When I saw him in the tartan of the Gallant Forty Twa
There's also "Twa Recruitin' Sairgeants", which starts out with: Twa recruitin' sairgeants cam' frae the black watch To markets and fairs some recruits for to catch An' a' that they listed was forty and twa So list me bonnie laddie, an' come awa
If either of these may be what you're looking for, I should be able to dig out the rest of the lyrics. - Ian O'Donnell |
