Last evening, while carrying out interfield transfers, before taking home some Shell Gas platform workers after they had completed their shift, an S76 helicopter operated by Bristows Helicopters crashed into the sea 25 miles from Great Yarmouth on the UK coast, there were no survivors and there was, it seems no chance that anybody would have survived long enough to be rescued.

The 11 dead include a colleague of mine who has left behind a family and many friends, so I would appreciate it if you could direct your thoughts to those left behind and maybe raise a song in the memory of these and others like them who pay too high a price for our lifestyle today.

Sledge

Regrettably, I can't say anything of much comfort other than to second Amos's words.

Have they published a list of names yet? My cousin could have been on that flight.

I had a friend who worked on a crab boat in the bering straits and he told me that many of his collegues were thrown over the side during storms, or other accidents that would do away with his fellow workers. After five years of seeing people die, he gave it up in spite of the fantastic money he was receiving. So someone, somewhere could have Alaskan crab legs.

I'm sorry about your friend, Sledge.

Love, annamill

Even though I am an undertaker. You never get used to death. Our thoughts and condolences go with you and all those who have lost their loved ones

That's just it, nothing I can see gives any names - presumably they're waiting till all are known and all relatives told.... He might have been working the Dundee run that week.... he might not......

What a sad situation. My condolences, sledge, and my thoughts are with the families and friends of the lost, and with Liz too as she waits for word about her cousin.

Written about another appalling disaster, the Piper Alpha fire back in 1987???, but obviously still very relevant!

WHO PAYS THE PIPER? (Nancy Nicolson)

Chorus: Who pays the piper, who pays the piper Who pays the piper, who calls the tune Who pays the piper, what is the fee Flames on the water, death on the sea

And the tune is old and has always told How the great brave and bold they do flourish How bravely they gamble with other men's lives And profit as other men perish

And the tune rings out and is always found When the ground receives yet another Father of dazed and despairing young bairns Or son of a desolate mother

And the price is dear for the folk who fear And who bear the burden of sorrow For those who were lost when the graph of the cost Crossed the graph of rich pickings tomorrow

My cousin wasn't on that flight - but he so easily could have been. Not a wait I would wish on anyone.
