I'm planning to visit Seattle sometime this fall; can't decide exactly when. Are there any musical events coming up in that season that would make for a good take-in?

You ought to PM John Peekstock, I think he is JohnP. Maybe John P. He runs Dusty Strings in Seattle and probably knows all there is to know about the scene there.

Liland, JohnP, ArtBrooks, and Mousethief are among the Mudcatters who live in or near Seattle. They may know about music happenings in the area.

I think that NW Folklife has talked about doing one or more smaller gatherings in the fall (in addition to the major festival in May), but I don't recall much more. Victory Music and the Seattle Folklore Society both post events calendars on their websites.

If you're interested in participatory music like jams and song circles, let me know. I know of several in the Seattle area. The major "events" I can think of right now are all in the summer or winter, but I'm sure there are some I don't know of.

Thanks for posting those links, Stewart. I knew there was another Seattle Mudcatter, but at the time I posted above I couldn't recall who it was!

Amergin, actually folks do plan to VISIT Seattle. It's only accidentally that they become RESIDENTS--they get stuck on I-5 at the S-curves, or on one of the floating brindges, and they can't leave! *G*

The SFS Song Circle this Sunday is on the East side (Kirkland) at the home of G. A., who is, according to those in the know at SFS, a cool blues player. Austin. My SFS email re this song circle said, "If you like blues, cancel that trip to New Orleans and show up Sunday.

If you PM me or email me at [e-mail], I will send you the address and phone number. The SFS website also has the phone numbers of Bruce and Jean, head honchos for the song circles. Call either one for information on where the gathering is each week or just get on their mailing list.

Yeah people visit Seattle! Especially when they find out just how little there is about 3 hours south!

As for events, I would recomend a stop at another bar on Ballard Ave, Bad Alberts, on a Thursday night to hear some blues with no cover (just buy a drink or something)!

Other than that, you might want to check out the calander for the Seattle Classical Guitar Society's events calander if your interested in classical guitar.
