Wel, I'm at Sidmouth the previous week, normally leaves me a bit folked out. But I've been thinking of tryin to get down for part of it this time, since I hear good things about it.

The thing is, is it possible to come down half way and camp without having to shell out for a week's season ticket?

You need a "part of the week" season to camp on the school site Kevin. Very reasonable prices.
If you come to TTF session D H I'll allow you to buy me a pint.
Watch out for the caravan flying the green dragon flag. I'll be behind the school as always.

'Singalongs' - i.e. chorus sessions every lunchtime in the bar of Neptune's Hall with Pete Collins & Mike Nicholson, and evening singarounds - well, anything arounds really - upstairs in the Charles Dickens with Tom and me.

Very friendly festival and *usually* excellent weather (thank goodness my desk is made of wood!)

Hope to see you there.

Barbara

Just got the Programme. Will have to take extra tablets as it looks like I'm gonna be busy dashing about town, trying not to miss anything.
I've just learned that our (me & missus) favourite duo Yves & Chris (aka Wild Turkey) have got an extra gig at Wrotham Arms Friday eve, so must cut short first visit to Charles Dickens Upstairs.
Must also find supply of Sloe Gin or, in desperation, throat lozenges, to help my voice make it thru the week.
AND Vectis's invitation to meet her behind the school! Well, what can I say?

I will be there with Terpsichore. If you find Castleford Longsword you will probably find me, and vice-versa with Bill, as we are programmed together.

If anyone sees Pete Grassby, his cat Orca, and his music stall there, tell him he should become a 'Cat member. And tell him I said so!

Why would anybody wish to gurdle a rump with an urdle?
You do get up to some strange tricks, Vectis.

This was posted in the 'Killed by the PEL system' thread.

For the past ten years I have appeared at Broadstairs Folk Week in a One Man Show at the Windsor Cinema. It is basically a stand up comedy show late at night (11-12.30ish).

There is no bar, there are stewards and all the usual safety features which you would require for a small cinema. My show takes place after a film showing when the film audience has left. It is ticketed in advance and open for sales on the night if there is space. It has around 80 seats or so.

My show was advertised in the programme and it appears that the PEL licensing officer went through the programme crossing out events that he said contravened the licensing laws. These included programmed unaccompanied shanty singers and morris singers in pub singarounds. My show was deemed illegal in his opinion and I understand he sent correspondence to the cinema outlining the penalties for contravening these laws.

The show will in fact take place at Broadstairs Museum - a new arts venue that has applied and been granted the appropriate licence.

Needless to say the opening ten minutes of my act will be directed towards this little Hitler who would serve the public better by removing all the burnt out cars up and down the Thanet Way.

Regards Doug Hudson

I know Richard Bridge will be there handing out his PEL info. If you also wish to help the cause by informing those attending, leaflets for distribution can be printed off from the following thread.

The sad end of yet another Broadstairs. Congrats to all the committee who worked so hard to make this such a good festival this year.
I met some 'Catters, played and sung in the dawn on three days of the week and mellowed out at the concert marquee most nights.
See you all again next year.
But not the officious little twit that made 'three sheets to the wind' into 'two sheets to the wind', made @travelling folk' into a duo and generally made the Doug Hudson move venue.
I've popped home to do some washing and then will hit the road again and head for Whitby.

God forbid that Whitby should suffer an unwashed Vectis.
The weather was bloody awful, it was so hot I had to consume several pints of liquid substances to stave off dehydration. BTW Kay & I loved your coconut dance.

Subject: Shout out to Broadstairs
From: little spiky

Can I just say cheers to everyone who made our Broadstairs so completely tan-fastic! (Especially everyone who looked out for us and made our week really easy!) It was the first time we've been, and we had an absolutely brilliant time (even playing a gig in the Barnaby Rudge.. wouldn't say I enjoyed that one as such, but it was certainly an experience, errr!! Call it a learning curve maybe! Ho hum). I feel like I've met some great people, and I hope to see you all again next year! Big Love, Spiky Xx
