I was sitting around at home last night, and remembered an old Jimmie Rodgers that I used to sing. Somewhere, I still have the recording on a 45 r.p.m. but when we moved last year, things got misplaced and I can't find it. I can remember most of the words, but I'm sure I'm messing them up. I tried Digitrad Search, and tried to wade through the eight thousand listings in Google that include these words. I've never successfully found anything on Google, yet I see others on Mudcat quickly finding stuff. I wonder if I'm doing it wrong.

Is there any Catter who knows this song? Here are the lyrics, the best that I can remember them..

From what I remember, the title of the song is Hurry Home Sweet Momma, or I'll be Gone. I'll go back and try Hurry Home Or I'll Be Gone.

Regarding Google searching.

I didn't know the song, so at first I tried just putting the title into google. I got 7440 Results

So next, I put "quotes" around the phrase. This means that Google will only search for that exact phrase rather than any pages that include the search terms anywhere in the text. I got zero results

I assumed that you must have got the title wrong, so I decided to enter a phrase from the lyrics you'd provided. I chose "Hurry home or I'll be gone" (guessing that you'd probably have remembered a repeated chorus phrase correctly)

Sticking that phrase (again in quotes) into Google and got these results Much more like it!

With only 41 results, I could have searched through them all, but tried a shortcut (that sometimes - but sometimes doesn't work) I added 'lyrics' to my search terms.

So my final search was: "Hurry home or I'll be gone" lyrics

Four results, at least two of which lead straight to the lyrics.

Jim Kweskin and the Jog Band do a Hurry home sweet daaaddy, and don't you take your time, if you wait too loooooooong, your mama will be gone... very similar idea, yet totally different verses.

Yeah, I think I have that already, Mrrzy. Thanks for the reminder. It is a different song, similar idea. Jimmie did several songs with full orchestra which have a very different feel than his solo guitar work... I love it all.

That song is in volume 2 of the RCA/PEER 2 book collection of jimmie rodgers songs...which i have, but

apparently the last time i had it out, i didnt put back in right place...
