Subject: RE: greg stephens 1st day in the US From: momnopp Date: 17 Aug 02 - 11:55 AM Hi! It's been ages since I even perused the threads -- looking for paying work and burying my head in other such mundane-ness. BUT, when Ferrara sent out a local email encouraging us to come out to the Royal Mile tonight, I simply couldn't resist the offer. I'll be there, and since my duties today include CLEANING, I've uncovered the 4 CDs I have left over from the Getaway to sell at a bargain $10 each -- Jed Marum's "Streets of Fall River". Yes, ladies and gents, tonight by special arrangement YOU can purchase a gen-u-ine Jed Marum CD (still shrink-wrapped) for the bargain price of $10 (the monies will go to the Getaway scholarship fund; they were a donation from Jed). I can't wait to see some 'Catters tonight and hear some glorious music :-) JudyO |

Subject: RE: greg stephens 1st day in the US From: Dave the Gnome Date: 16 Aug 02 - 11:36 AM Whoops! Just PM'd you Greg - didn't realise you were abroad. It'll wait till you get back anyway. What's this about humming birds and cardinals anyway? Why do the birds hum and the cardinals don't? Do the cardinals sing instead? Or do they whistle? Have a grand time and sink some of those fine microbrewed beers while I am working in Stoke next Sunday (See what you have missed :-)) Cheers DtG |
Subject: RE: greg stephens 1st day in the US From: MMario Date: 16 Aug 02 - 10:44 AM CS - hope you get to the show. Take a deep breath and relax. |
Subject: RE: greg stephens 1st day in the US From: greg stephens Date: 16 Aug 02 - 10:36 AM I just posted a little bit on the I'm coming Virginia thread and then found this had started up.So for first day diary, see the the other thread. And we are now, you will be interested to know, staying in HULL Street, Staunton! Hope to meet a few folks at the Royal Mile Saturday, or at Bobert's place on Sunday which I can guarantee is fantasic, as long as you like humming birds, cardinals, trees, music and convivial company. Bobert's hillbilly impression is pretty convincing, until he wandered off with a gun and failed to come back with a deer. |
Subject: RE: greg stephens 1st day in the US From: Fortunato Date: 16 Aug 02 - 10:22 AM Their show at the 'Mile starts at 9:00 but come early and get a seat down front if you can, (near the windows in the dining room) as they will not have a sound system. The food is good, come for dinner. Tell the hostess you'd like to move down front if they can't put you there right away. see you there, Chance. |
Subject: RE: greg stephens 1st day in the US From: Bobert Date: 15 Aug 02 - 10:37 PM Jeri: Yeah , the robins are smaller in the UK. Greg saw his first US ribin and asked what it was... Ha. Yeah, we're gonna bend a few srings and stories... Bobert |

Subject: RE: greg stephens 1st day in the US From: Jeri Date: 15 Aug 02 - 06:45 PM I really think that England should name Greg & Kate official folkie embassadors. After all, they seem to be traveling to all these foriegn countries anyway. The US, Hull... Show 'em a robin, Bobert. From what I gather, the robins in the UK are different than the ones we have in the US. |

Subject: greg stephens 1st day in the US From: Bobert Date: 15 Aug 02 - 02:18 PM Well, for those of you have who have been following various threads about greg stephens coming to Virginia, the event has indeed happened. Yes, I picked he and his wife, Kate, up at Dulles and all went well until we were about half way home when he forgot that he needed rolling papers for his tobacco. Well, around this parts, the few stores around don't sell rolling papers because they think they will be used for the burning of evidence, so to speak. So, on the other side of town there is a shop where one can get a tattoo, a six pack and a hash pipe. The only people I ever see going in there are bikers with tattoos from head to toe and women in jeans 2 sizes too small. But Greg did need his rolling papers, and though I'm sure that the guy behind the counter went home and told his wife that a couple of narcotic agents came into his store that day, Greg is now stocked up for the duration... We had a mellow time last night, drinking beer, swapping stories, playing a little music and, for P-Vine and myself, watching Kate and Greg as they discovered American birds. "Look at that one, Katie!" "Did you see that red bird?" Today, is was a breakfast of turkey scrapple (Thank you, SahronA..), grits and sliced tomatoe. As we figured, the scrapple and grits were new to them, but they were good sports, ate them and said they liked them... Hmmmmmm? After breakfast, a short course in driving on the correct-for-the-US-taht-is side of the road and now they're off practicing the lessons and will be back Sunday for a small Cat gathering in Harpers Ferry.... More later, I'm sure... Bobert P.S. For those who haven't heard them, they play some real nice music... |
