Subject: LP player problem From: GUEST,frustrated Date: 15 Aug 02 - 03:02 PM the needle on my newish Sony record lp whatever player wore out and I bought a new needle cartridge for it. I eventually got the thing on, but now when a try to listen to something the needle "skids" towards the center of the disk making a very displeasing sound. I set the anit-skid dial to 1.5 which is reccommended in the directions, but have tried all possible settings to no avail. I have also tried adjusting the counter weight thing, but that doesn't seem to help much either. Any other tips would be greatly apprecieated. thanks for the help, frustrated. : - ( |
Subject: RE: Help: LP player problem From: MMario Date: 15 Aug 02 - 03:29 PM Are you sure it is the correct needle for the player? The only time I had that problem I had an incorrect needle. |
Subject: RE: Help: LP player problem From: GUEST,frustrated Date: 15 Aug 02 - 03:51 PM could be, says its "universal" but it seems that may not be the case. it is different from the original, but came with an adaptor that fits, so I didn't realy think that was the prob. guess I will go back. thanks |
Subject: RE: Help: LP player problem From: GUEST,Folkmonster Date: 15 Aug 02 - 07:11 PM Sounds like you have either: (a) Not got the tracking weight set properly. Set it to '0' and see if the arm balances - you should be able to lift it gently, an it should stay where it is (or at least not thud down or up). (b)Anti-skating (anti-skid) is broken/over set. This is a gentle spring that helps the stylus track the fine spiral of the microgroove without being 'pushed' by the vinyl. Again. set the tracking weight to 0.05 or as low as you can get it, lift the arm gently. It should drop straight down - if it moves to the centre of the turntable, this is your problem. (c) The stylus tip is missing. Sounds stupid but please check - Run your finger over the stylus - you should feel it and a horrendous graunching sound should come out of the speakers! |
Subject: RE: Help: LP player problem From: GUEST,CraigS Date: 16 Aug 02 - 07:16 PM Sounds like you replaced the cartridge, not just the stylus. If this screws into slots, and is not a snap fit, you will need to adjust its settings. Try asking the supplier about setting it up before you damage all your records. |
