Yes he is, an ace player, a superb songwriter and a genuinely nice person as well.

But why, GUEST, don't you register as a mamber if you are a Pat Donohue fan? SO much easier to reply to a name ....

Murray

Re:PAT.....Oh yeah!!!!!!!
(When a guy like Chet Atkins revered a guy like Pat Donahue you know there's some serious pickin' going on.) I especially like playing Pat's "Downtown Stomp". Great tune and took me months to learn it!

His most current album "American Guitar" is woooonnnnderfullll!! He was out here with Garrison and the Prairie Home show to do the Hollywood Bowl, and he came up to perform at the little Coffee Gallery in Altadena, CA. Charming, funny, and a jaw-droppingly great guitar player. Too bad he can't get the rights to record his parody of "Sukiyaki".....'No likee ickee-yucky sushi'.

Count me in as a fan. The thing that most impresses me about him is the way he can play complex arrangements and make them swing. I don't hear the parts with him just the music. BTW, the acoustic sound he gets on his recordings is, to me, far superior than the electric tinge his guitar has on PHC but I guess that's got to do with performing live with a band. vl

I first got the "American Guitar" CD. Just flawless. Amazing. Looking for more, I found "Two of a Kind" with Pat Donohue and Mike Dowling.

Mike's website tells of his guitar camp in situated smack in the middle of Heaven. That man is living right! If I can scratch up the $$, I'm going!!!

If you haven't heard Pat do his "Swingin' On A Star" parody, "Would You Like To Play The Guitar?," you've missed a Donohue classic! (The lyrics are here in the forum, and you can hear Pat do the song by going to the PHC website.)

"And would you like to sing in a bar, and take your money home in a jar...."

Boy this guy has everything. I felt so lucky to be able to see him live in an intimate setting. Fantastic guitarist, great delivery and a wonderful stage presence. I'm saving up for a CD...

The best line, IMHO, is "Would you like to play the guitar / For a living -- Har de har har!"

Steve-o, You say Pat D. can't get permission to record his "Sukiyaki" parody ("...No likee ickee-yucky sushi...") -- which caused me to ROTFLMAO when I heard it on PHC. Do you know if you can download it from the PHC website? I.e., is there any way to get to hear this if you didn't happen to record it when he sang it on PHC?

For that matter, did any of you catters happen to record this song when it was sung on PHC?

Genie
