With Fylde Folk Festival nearly upon us again - this is number 30! I was wondering if many Mudcatters will be going along?

I will be there as usual (under several guises eg Penny Black, The Ian Gartside Band, Singleton Cloggers and The Elderly Brothers)and would love to put a few more faces to the names..... so please say hello (if you want to see a "Mug Shot" of me, there's one on the Penny Black site - http://www.pennyblackfolk.co.uk - I have been informed it is worth downloading the photo, enlarging it and placing it over the Fireplace to keep the children away!)

Great new line up for The Ian Gartside Band this year - the new line up is - Ian Gartside, Me (Pete Skinner), Trevor Colluney and The "Late" Bill Hunt (no he's not dead just late)

Don't forget the pre festival "do's" Starting on Monday 26th with concerts every evening (Vin Garbutt on Wednesday at The Marine Hall)and some daytime events as well.

Friday it starts proper and if you fancy a sing come along to the Mount to the John Bond singaround (usually in the "Family Room") get the festival off with a song (and a pint)

Hope to see you there..............

Pete

Most unlikely for me this year, I'm sad to say. School starts as usual the following morning after the festival. But maybe..............

Off to play at the Jacinta concert tonight (after a 4 hour stint at a Festival Jubilee fund supported street party) - weather is great here in Blackpool/Fleetwood and the Gary and Vera concert at Fleetwood today went well according to Alan. Looks like the festivals off to a good start - sorry to hear some of the regulars can't get over (my wife's a teacher so I know what you mean Eric.... !)

hope to see some of the rest of you there though.... have to give me Mudcat T-Shirt a press!

Pete

Another great "pre" festival concert with Vin Garbutt - met a fellow Mudcatter, plus the odd pint!!!

To anyone attending........ who buys a a souvenir programme - please note..... the web site for Penny Black should have read
http://www.PennyBlackFolk.co.uk
and web site for The Ian Gartside band is:
http://www.TheIanGartsideBand.co.uk
Singleton Cloggers will be appearing on Sunday and have a web site at:
http://www.SingletonCloggers.co.uk

weather could be good this week end - and don't forget the Illuninations start Friday Night so the roads might be busy coming into Blackpool!

see u Pete

What a great festival. I thoroughly enjoyed it (as usual) and managed to see both the old favourites aswell as a few new and I must say promising artists. Although I did spend a fun few hours correction posters for the Gradey Lancashire show. If you saw one with the brass band's name corrected(Lostock Hall Memorial Band), it was one of mine!

Met a few more actters while there and I'm sure someone on the Isle of Mann is probably having a tent sale right now but thats life :-)

Looking forward to next year already, even if they have banned the rats from the ticket desk

Edain

Just got back from a fantastic Fylde. I particularly enjoyed Waterson Carthy and the Poozies but the absolute highlights of the whole festival were Jane and Amanda Threlfall. I've just been listening to their new CD and it's worth every penny.

Folkie, I have to agree. The Jane & Amanda Band are great. Each year I see them at Fylde and I am impressed by the care they take with the song & tune arrangments and the way their voices complement each other, and Martin & Roger's beautiful accompaniments. So tasteful, unlike one or two other artist there.
At last years Fylde, with the addition of Jane & Amanda's mum on cello, they made a pretty good ceilidh band.
Martin does a pretty mean melodeon workshop as well.
Cheers Les Brown
