Subject: Man walks among us From: alison Date: 21 May 98 - 01:09 AM Hi all you C&W fans out there, I'm looking for this song which I heard when I was very small on a Marty Robbins tape. Wasn't able to find it at "Cowpie". Thanks Slainte Alison |
Subject: RE: Man walks among us From: Joe Offer Date: 21 May 98 - 05:21 AM Well, Alison, here is a bigger collection of Marty Robbins lyrics than I expected to find, but it doesn't have your song. Chances are good that Gene will know the whole thing by heart, so let's give him a day or so to get around to posting it. Otherwise, I can transcribe it for you. Man walks among us, be still. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Man walks among us From: alison Date: 21 May 98 - 08:44 AM Hi Joe, Yes, that's the one. I can remember a fair bit of it, but not all. For anyone else out there it begins, (I think) "Warm are the winds on the desert, A ?whirlwind is dancing around, I stop to survey all the ?wonder that's here, When a shadow moves out 'cross the ground." Any takers? Slainte Alison |
Subject: RE: Man walks among us From: Joe Offer Date: 21 May 98 - 03:13 PM Hi, Alison - Gene Graham says he'll post the lyrics later today. Say, are you off on a country tangent now? All you Celts seem to be doing that lately. What do you know that we don't know? -Joe Offer, feeling mischievous again- |

Subject: RE: Man walks among us From: alison Date: 21 May 98 - 08:40 PM Hi Joe, I hope Mischievous is enjoying all this groping he or she is getting. Lucky old mischievous..........(grin) Thanks Gene. That's exactly how I remembered it. I haven't gone all country, Joe. I just happened to see that someone had sung it at a folk club recently and it brought back memories of holidays as a child when Dad would be singing along with Marty Robbins in the car. This one always stuck in my mind, (along with "Big Iron"). Slainte alison |
Subject: RE: Man walks among us From: Jon W. Date: 22 May 98 - 10:39 AM Big Iron? Is that about golf? Ever since Greg Norman, that's all you Aussies think about. Jon W. also feeling a little mischievous (but not the same one that Joe is feeling) |
Subject: RE: Man walks among us From: Art Thieme Date: 22 May 98 - 10:52 AM Bob Nolan, from the original Sons Of The Pioneers, did this song on a fine solo LP (Elektra I think) right before he passed away. Like Marty, Bob had atruly distinct voice. Marty sang backup on the chorus on this cut. Art |
Subject: RE: Man walks among us From: alison Date: 22 May 98 - 09:16 PM Hi Jon, 'fraid not (can't stand the game myself). It's good song about a Arizona Ranger with a big iron on his hip, who went after an outlaw (Texas Red). But hey, what do I know he might have shot him with a golf club. I'm about to show my ignorance.... what's a butcher bird? PS Think I'll change my name to Mischievous, I feel like I'm missing out on something!! Slainte Alison |
Subject: RE: Man walks among us From: Will Date: 23 May 98 - 01:44 PM From completeness, the lyrics to "Big Iron" are at the link that Joe posted above. |
