Chance, I can't say, but if you're on your way down there, I highly recommend Kevin Barrys in Savannah (down by the river walk).

Hey, Ed. What is Kevin Barrys? Pub, club, resturant, folkie spot? We'll check it out. We're down for a few days next month, the missus is at a conference and I'm going to bike between beach bars and play my baby taylor or drinks. Can you busk in Hilton Head? cheers, chance

Don't know about HH but there are a couple good places t obusk in Sav. Along the river front and the City Market area about 3 blocks away are both good pplavces. I ahve heard some good musicians at both places. One very interesting guy playes a 6 string guitar-banjo. neat sounding instrument.

Thanks, jimmyt. You seem to know the town(I've never been there). I haven't busked since '67 or '68 (we did ok on the streets of Georgetown (USA)), and I was mostly kidding. Although my better half suggests it once in a while. I THINK she's joking. Raising kids, day jobs, and our music and comedy keep us off the streets. Still, on vacation it might be fun to play on the river walk, I admire the buskers and street performers, it's beautiful art...cheers, chance

I feel the same way! I practice dentistry during the day, but I really admire the street performers and never fail to support their music whenever I see them in the subways of NYC or on squares and street corners all over. I always sort of envy them. I am performing a fair amount in a 4 piece folk group that plays a lot of old PPand M and Kingston Trio stuff with a smattering of Irish music, and we are planning on doing some busking in Chattanooga Tennessee in a heavy tourist area just for the fun of it. There was a recent thread about busking that I found fascinating. Savannah is a terrific small City. You will enjoy it. I have several young musician friends that play in the City market area as well as the riverfront while attending school there. Ther Savannah College of Art and Design is located there and one of the majors is Historic preservation, so you will see a lot of historic buildings there that have been renovated as class projects. Thanks, Jim. My cousin Kyle Shiver, a great performer and musician and songwriter is re-locating there and his wife is going to grad school at The Savannah College of Art and Design. Unfortunately Kyle will be on tour when we're down.

Savannah sounds like a neat scene.

Are you located in Chattanooga? I've never been, but Gottabe Music in Chattanooga published some of my country tunes I wrote during the 70's.

I am in Dalton, GA about 30 miles from Chattanooga. Chattanooga is a great example of a small American City that has kind of redefined itself and risen from its own ashes. When I moved to the area in the early 80's it was a dying foundry town with very little going for it. It is now a very lively arts community with lots of tourism. There is a bridge that crosses the Tennessee River that instead of being torn down when its usefulness wained due to rerouting traffic, it was made in to a pedestrian bridge which should provide a great place for some street performing. I'll let you know how it goes! I noticed that you had started the thread about Jerry Rasmussin andf the Royal Mile. He has become one of my new mudcat friends in the short 10 days that I have been on this site. YOu get a sense of knowing people pretty quickly in the written word! TODD

Chance, Kevin Berry's is a pub on the river walk in Savannah. Years ago I was there on business and stopped in. There was a small stage (good for 3 or, if very close, 4 musicians). A guy was playing Irish folk songs on guitar. My sense is if you stopped by at 3 p.m. for a pint after hanging on the walk and there was nothing going that night, after a quick listen you may have a gig. Otherwise, I'm certain that evening's entertainment may suit you and the missus.
