Answers to this thread, as you get them. Person who posts the most correct answers gets the Lavish Prize. Not all the questions are musical, but the majority are.Two of the questions have the same answer (just to confuse you). And as we are dealng with folk-songs, please don't be annoyed if my versions are different from yours.

!) Look out for daredevils.
2) She came from there with her diminutive brother Isaac.
3) Highest in the land? You can say that again!
4)Noted Clare concertina player.
5) Good viewpoint for two Clare resorts.
6) Aaron's sweet (afraid my spelling's none too good).
7)Cheering the king? For shame! Back to your maritime clean-up.
8) Historically inaccurate poet's Pacific look-out.
9) Home sweet home in Tennessee
10)Funny (???) American, in Washington DC, originally Scottish borders.
11) Round the camp-fire, snow-covered.
12) Where Piers dreamed.
13) Eminent from Buffalo to Washington
14) Southern, hot and smoky, or Cockney summoning Swann and Flander's transport of delight?
15)On an upward outing, someone forgot the boiled eggs, ham sandwiches and flasks of tea.
16) Doubly steep, by a doubly-levelled road.
17) Unloved medic.
18) Gay 1728 hit, from Greenland's coast to where?
19) It was there, so George went there and stayed.
20) 24 km from Middlesborough(spelling?), and really the opposite of the rest of the quiz.

I didn't get the first damned one of these, but I am the first to respond, so don't I get some kind of prize? Time's "Man of the Year", maybe?

Well, come on khandu, this is a hardish quiz butI think you ought to be able to manage one ofthe easier ones. There is a theme, but of course you need one or two done before you spot the theme. Tell you what, you send a lot of great messages to mudcat, I'll include you on theprize list if you get one right. How's that?

Okay, got it... Looking out for daredevils. That must be, "She'll be comin' round the mountain". Why? I'll tell ya why. Somebody driving six white horses while coming round the mountain has got to be a daredevil and you better watch out for her! There, by God!

And...#20 must be "Down in the Valley", not that I know anything about Middlesborough but if it is the opposite of the rest of the quiz and the rest of the quiz is about mountains then the opposite must be about valleys.

Now, I submit to you, Mr. greg, I may not be literally correct in my responses but I am logically correct!!!!

Take that!!!

khandu

Well khandu youre trying hard, but you aint there yet. Now I bet youve got one of these newfangled computer things. If youre thinking about "mountain" and "daredevils" and your feeble brain is not up to making the connection, let a computer search do it for you.And as regards "Down in the valley": you're on the right track about the answer being something more along the lines of a valley rather than a mountain. Just translate the distance in the clue into American usage, and maybe change the town spelling from English to American.

I'll do a recap here, as things got a little clouded with conversations with Khandu.
Questions answered correctly so far:
2) (Sweet Betsy from) Pike 9) Rocky Top 11) (On top of) Old Smoky
So get your boots and ropes on and lets have the rest.

Not the hall of the mountain king. That was PeerGynt, this is Piers: medieval England is where we might be looking. And not Edward II's little pal Piers Gaveston, another famous Piers, even though he was only an agricultural worker.

18 Looks as if it should be either ;
A)"Indian soil"

"Were I laid on Greenlan's coast..."
&
"Were I sold on Indian soil..."

or

B)"Egypt's burning strand..."
("where Afric's flowing fountains are often blocked with sand")

Walrus, you are in the right area on both, but you have to pick an answer that fits the overall theme. Suggest you think where Piers was dreaming for (12), and look a little nearer the end of the Gay song for(18).

Greg,
I'll have to search for the Piers Ploughman reference, but from your note, 18) must then be "Over the Hills and Far away"
