Subject: RE: New Session in Chester (UK) From: Bullfrog Jones Date: 19 Sep 02 - 07:54 AM Do you know Mark Woolley of Chester, excellent bodhranist/whistler? If not I'll e-mail him about your session. If you do, say hello from Malcolm in Stony. BJ |
Subject: RE: New Session in Chester (UK) From: GUEST,Oakley Date: 19 Sep 02 - 08:56 AM If you think it would help, why not use the Sloop at Barton on Humber as the very model for you session. It has proved very enduring with a slight tendency to intoxication9. A typical mix of attendees would normally include several naked bassoonists daubed in blue woad, refugees from East Yorkshire sessions (which are dropping like ninepins at the moment) and at least a jOHn in Hull or two9. There is planty to amuse, including arythmic hupping, furniture smashing and a-cudgel beating on the walls. Once in a while we get to skin a melodeon player and make another bodrahahanahanahn. Perhaps we could organise a Sloop away-match9? |
Subject: RE: New Session in Chester (UK) From: GUEST,nobby Date: 19 Sep 02 - 10:04 AM is it the session or the sessionists that are dropping?? |
Subject: RE: New Session in Chester (UK) From: GUEST,Oakley Date: 19 Sep 02 - 10:24 AM The sessions unfortunately, for the sprout are Nellies in Beverley and the Hase, whose respective managements would prefer not to host infrequent bouts of music-making and bear9 drinking. Shame, really. Best wishes to the Union Vaults from near Hull. |
Subject: RE: New Session in Chester (UK) From: Mr Happy Date: 14 Oct 02 - 04:17 AM bullfrog, yes i've had fleeting glimpses of your pal mark. he's involved with a new group 'the restless bentleys' comprising him on low whistle & percussion- he's one of that rare breed of bodhranii who, when he's playing, you can scarcely hear it except when necessary, adding to pieces rather than taking away or taking over. his cronies in the band are lee on whistles, mandolin, tenor banjo; rachel on concertina & flute. i'm not sure if he's aware of my new session in the vaults as an official regular do but some months ago when we were just starting out with it as an impromptu apres clog dancing session, the 'bentleys' came in the vaults for a pint after their band practice. i've advertised the event now so he may get wind of it, but you may also em him in case he's missed it. cheers, mr h |
Subject: RE: New Session in Chester (UK) From: Bullfrog Jones Date: 14 Oct 02 - 06:37 AM I tried an email but the address must be out of date as it bounced back. I'll ask around and see if anyone has a more up to date one. You're right about his playing -- he has a rare subtlety. He also plays with Dansaul who are well worth catching. All the best BJ |
