Subject: So anyone going on this march?(28th UK) From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 24 Sep 02 - 01:49 PM There's another march this Saturday in London. It hasn't had the attention paid to the fox-hunting rally, because it's only about thousands of human being who are likely to get killed in our name, if a blitz on Iraq is initiated.
So is anyone going on this march? |

Well , if it makes you feel any better , C-span is rebroadcasting , in its entirety ,Tony Blair's making his case to Parliament with Q & A as I write this from the "live" broadcast I caught the tail end of this morn. A rather broad display of all of the U.K.'s point's of view via representatives both pro & con. Some here know what a "telly" is for. ;-) |
Subject: RE: BS: So anyone going on this march?(28th UK) From: Teribus Date: 25 Sep 02 - 09:52 AM I won't be Kev, but for comparison the number you have to beat is 400,000 plus - the fox hunting rally rally was the biggest public demonstration of all time in the UK. No public disorder - no arrests - not even litter. In terms of size it was twice the size of the anti-Poll Tax demonstrations - size = degree of support and commitment. We'll see.
By the way thanks for the link from which I extracted the following: "Supporters of the Stop the War Coalition include:
George Galloway MP, Jeremy Corbyn MP, Alan Simpson MP, Tam Daylell MP, the Muslim Parliament, ASLEF, ..." "The Muslim Parliament"!!!!! Just exactly what is that???? |
Subject: RE: BS: So anyone going on this march?(28th UK) From: Bagpuss Date: 25 Sep 02 - 10:00 AM The Muslim Parliament: http://www.islamicthought.org/mp-intro.html I was under the impression that it was now effectively defunct. Maybe recent events and feelings have caused it to be resurrected? Bagpuss |
Subject: RE: BS: So anyone going on this march?(28th UK) From: GUEST,William Guest Date: 25 Sep 02 - 12:18 PM According to someone on Indymedia, there were actually four arrests at the Countryside Alliance march, one of which: "...the president of birbeck college student union was attacked during the CA march. A marcher smacked him over the head with a horn, shouting "you paki c**t!". The cops were on hand and arrested the attacker who was charged with a racially motivated attack..." My asterisks. I'll most probably be going along on Saturday. William |

Subject: RE: BS: So anyone going on this march?(28th UK) From: greg stephens Date: 27 Sep 02 - 02:50 PM Re your comments about relative prominence of fox-hunting and Iraq in the press. McGrath. 1)There is a fantastic coverage of anti-Bush sentiment in the British press. 2) The hoo-ha between the dog-hunters and the pro-cyanide gassers can hardly be laid at the door of the pro-hunt marchers. They didnt start the controversy, it was the gassers that proposed the ban. 3)A lot of people who dont want the war wont be marching because they dont want to improve Saddam's hand in the current poker game:they want him to lose the game, and avoid the war. |
