Subject: Winnipeg Folk Festival! Tell me about it! From: Date: 29 May 98 - 11:45 PM Hello again! Back after a long while doing important stuff! My wife & I are likely to attend the Folk Festival in Winnipeg Manitoba in July 9-12. We'd like to hear from anyone who lives up there, or knows what's going on, or plans on attending, too. We'd like suggestions about things to see, inexpensive lodging, & events. Also any experiences you've had at past festivals there. We just sent an Email to the Festival site, but suspect locals or persons outside the advertising community may be more helpful. So, How 'bout it, Eh? Gary Messages from multiple threads combined. |

Subject: RE: Winnipeg Folk Festival! Tell me about it! From: BK Date: 01 Jun 98 - 11:28 PM I have copied the following from a Canadian folk music list server message; gotta run now, but maybe this might be of some interest. Cheers, BK
I am an entertainment writer with the Winnipeg Free Press. I am planning to compile a story about 25 years of the Winnipeg Folk Festival in advance of this year's event on the second weekend of July. If anyone has a favourite anecdote or memory (musical or otherwise) from the Wpg festival, I'd love to hear it. I'd also be interested in your perceptions about what makes the Winnipeg festival different, better, worse, whatever, than other festivals you've attended. Ideally I'd like to quote directly from your e-mail reply. Or you can leave me a phone number where you can be reached during the day. Thanks for your help. Morley Walker mwalker@freepress.mb.ca |
Subject: RE: Winnipeg Folk Festival! Tell me about it! From: GaryD Date: 01 Jun 98 - 11:38 PM Thanks Nora for the information you sent me on my personal page..we are getting excited! We'll get back to you when I get more time... Also, I'd like to hear some stuff from you Morley, when you get a chance! I am a bit surprised to hear from so few people so far on this thread... Reckon Winnipeg is too far for most to travel? |
Subject: RE: Winnipeg Folk Festival! Tell me about it! From: Zane Date: 02 Jun 98 - 12:40 AM Sweet memories......I attended the first TWO Wpg Folk Festivals in the 1970's. Now I live 110 miles northwest of Wpg, but I spent my first 35 years in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Winnipeg Folk Festival is still terrific by all accounts in the local media coverage. Great music, workshops, attendance and facilities. It really is a top notch affair. I'm sure some more recent goers will respond soon. I remember seeing Buffie St Marie back then...lots of rain and laughter. I found a weekend pass to the 1975 Festival in the basement just now... you tweeked me! I slowly wound up gravitating to the "BLUES" and it's rich history. BB King played the Wpg Concert Hall with his 7 piece band two nights ago. Two hour show,-not bad for 72 years young. 5 stars it gets. Bye |
