I relistened to the album today and I must agree. That doesn't really sound like Jim singing. It would of been cool if Buck White would of done some mandolin as well. Anyways, thanks for calling that to my attention.

I just used Masato's link and played the clip from the album. Mac's voice is so distinctive, there's no way to mistake it. It's definately Mac singing lead on the verse.

Thanks Masato. They also do The White Dove on that album with Ricky Skaggs. That recording offers a great comparison of Ricky's mandolin playing and Jesse's cross picking style.
Mark, Mac does sing in that recording, but are you sure he sings the verses? Also on vocal in that recording is Buck White.

Yes, but it's Mac Wiseman doing the vocal.

Jim and Jesse also did a great version of this song. I can't remember off the top of my head which album it was on.

Thanks, Masato. I don't know when I'll have the time—if ever—to do a MIDI for the song.

THE LITTLE WHITE CHURCH

There's a (I)little white church in the valley,
That (IV)stands in my memory each (I)day,
And it seems I can hear the bells now ringing,
Though (II)I am many miles a(V)way,
And (I)many times in church on Sunday morning,
The (IV)whole countryside would gather (I)there,
They would all kneel down at the alter,
As they lifted (V)up their voice in (I)prayer.

Chorus:
Oh the (I)church in the valley, the (IV)little white church,
The (I)place I loved so (V)well,
I'm (I)sad and I'm lonely, yes I'm (IV)sad and I'm lonely,
For that (I)little white (V)church in the (I)dell.

We would sing the old song “Rock of Ages,”
Christ let me hide myself in thee,
And I know some of them are now waiting,
Just o'r the dark and stormy sea,
I know their troubles have all ended,
And happy together they will be,
They are waiting and watching up yonder,
For the coming home of you and me.

(chorus)
