Subject: Green Pastures, Willie & Emmylou, CD? From: Steve Latimer Date: 19 Oct 02 - 04:12 PM My wife downloaded the lyrics & chords to Green Pastures from another site. Apparently the version was a Duet between Willie Nelson & Emmylou Harris, two of my favorite singers. I was able to find it on Amazon on an Emmylou Box Set, but I'm wondering if they did an album together. Thanks in advance. |
Subject: RE: Green Pastures, Willie & Emmylou, CD? From: Robin Date: 19 Oct 02 - 04:44 PM Emmylou Harris, _Duets_ Reprise 7599-25791-2(1990) has 12 tracks. 10 is "Gulf Coast Highway" with Willie Nelson. [It's also in the 3 CD _Portraits_ (Reprise).] As far as I know, they never did a whole album together. Which is the box set with "Green Pastures"? Robin |
Subject: RE: Green Pastures, Willie & Emmylou, CD? From: Steve Latimer Date: 19 Oct 02 - 04:49 PM Robin, I have Duets and I just love what they did with Gulf Coast Highway. I just realized that it was Gulf Coast Highway, not Green Pastures that I saw on her Box set. |
Subject: RE: Green Pastures, Willie & Emmylou, CD? From: Robin Date: 19 Oct 02 - 05:10 PM Steve: PHOEY It's possible that it's unrecorded, or unissued -- I think quite a lot of her stuff didn't get issued. Anyway, luck in chasing it or more. Robin |
Subject: RE: Green Pastures, Willie & Emmylou, CD? From: catspaw49 Date: 19 Oct 02 - 06:02 PM Well...........Actually Steve and Robin, "Green Pastures" is on one of my favorite albums (although I no longer have a copy), Roses in the Snow. Willie is indeed on the track playing guitar, but the duet vocal is Ricky Skaggs and the harmony is Dolly Parton! Bryan Bowers also plays autoharp on that cut. Subject: RE: Green Pastures, Willie & Emmylou, CD? From: michaelr Date: 19 Oct 02 - 06:27 PM Emmylou appears on a recent Willie CD (don't know the title) where they duet an Daniel Lanois's song "The Maker" which Emmy recorded on "Wrecking Ball". Maybe that has the song you're looking for? Cheers, Michael |
Subject: RE: Green Pastures, Willie & Emmylou, CD? From: Robin Date: 19 Oct 02 - 08:58 PM Steve, Spaw: "Green Pastures" is on the _Duets_ volume I mentioned earlier (was looking at singers rather than titles before!). Can't seem to find _Wrecking Ball_ (lovely album, one of my favourites), but as I remember, none of the songs on that were duets. I hadn't heard of _Roses in the Snow_ -- hafta look out for it. (Thanks for drawing it to my attention, Spaw.) Robin ooops! Found _Wrecking Ball_. Phew. Michael said: 'Daniel Lanois's song "The Maker"'. _Wrecking Ball_ (the back says) was produced by Daniel Lanois, and a couple of songs were written by him, but not that -- unless it's there under another title? Incidentally, anyone like Donna Fargo? I like her stuff a lot, but she doesn't seem at all well known, and I've only managed to get hold of one complete album of hers. R2. |
Subject: RE: Green Pastures, Willie & Emmylou, CD? From: Giac Date: 19 Oct 02 - 09:50 PM Robin - Emmy Lou's Roses In The Snow came out in the '70s. My favorite of all her albums. The Willie Nelson album, on which Emmy Lou duets on The Maker, is Teatro. ~:o) Mary |
Subject: RE: Green Pastures, Willie & Emmylou, CD? From: rangeroger Date: 19 Oct 02 - 10:06 PM Emmylou sings with Willie on almost all the tracks on Teatro.Daniel Lanois, who also produced it,plays on the majority of the tracks. rr |
Subject: RE: Green Pastures, Willie & Emmylou, CD? From: catspaw49 Date: 19 Oct 02 - 10:31 PM Except that Green Pastures is not on Teatro. ...........So Steve.....What are you looking for? LOL BTW, these are both outstanding albums! Teatro is very neat and as I said before, Roses in the Snow is simply spectacular and a lot of Emmylou fans feel it one of her very best. She came to Nashville just before recording it and if you recall, the place was eat up with what was then called "The Nashville Sound." A lot of old timers were bemoaning the fact that no one was doing the original country music and were looking for someone to come along and revive it. Along came this hippie looking folkie chick and much to their surprise, she is the one who did bring back the roots of several country genres. That at least is the accessment of Robert Oehrman who wrote an excellent book on the subject and I couldn't agree more. Emmylou was and is the standard that many new artists look to when they go back and "explore the roots." Lately, you may have noticed quite a few women in Nashville issuing albums of the music they grew up with.......Once again, thank Emmylou. Spaw |
Subject: RE: Green Pastures, Willie & Emmylou, CD? From: Robin Date: 19 Oct 02 - 10:38 PM STOP IT EVERYONE!!! I'm currently £18 out of pocket [sniff] Hunting around in the wake of these suggestions, _Roses in the Snow_ is available from amazon.uk for £8. BUT they're charging the same for the orginal, and a 2002 remaster with two extra tracks. I went for the remastered version. _Teatro_, oddly, doesn't seem to be available in the UK, but amazon has a hook to a Netherlands distributor, who's asking £10. Plus, I presume, p&p. So thanks for all the suggestions. Now if only someone can point me to more Donna Fargo CDs ... Great place, Mudcat -- dunno why I didn't come here sooner. (Though at this rate, I won't be able to AFFORD to hang around much longer!) Robin |
Subject: RE: Green Pastures, Willie & Emmylou, CD? From: michaelr Date: 20 Oct 02 - 12:06 AM Spaw -- yessir and amen to your comments about Emmylou's influence. And let us also praise and honor HER major influence, the late and great Gram Parsons. Cheers, Michael |
Subject: RE: Green Pastures, Willie & Emmylou, CD? From: Steve Latimer Date: 20 Oct 02 - 12:40 AM Okay, I think that we're at the bottom of this. The chords, lyrics and credits that I have are identical to the ones that 'Spaw posted. When I read that Willie was playing guitar I assumed that he would also be singing with her. It appears that he only played guitar and that Ricky Scaggs did the vocal duet with her. Furthermore, I have that track on Emmylou's "Duets" CD. It's what started the lyrics search in the first place. Sorry if I brought others in on my wild goose chase, but thanks for joining in. I would love to hear many other duets with these two. I think that there voices were made for each other, as evidenced by Gulf Coast Highway and the stuff the they do together on Teatro. How about Emmylou's contributions to Dylan's "Desire" album? She is astounding. |
Subject: RE: Green Pastures, Willie & Emmylou, CD? From: Peter T. Date: 20 Oct 02 - 12:17 PM Yes, certainly, very strong influence on many fine artists returning to their roots, especially I am reminded of Cimmarron, the cover with that Spanish Indian look with the hair and that dress, and when she -- what? Oh, sorry, influence, right -- and then there was Elite Hotel, with that let me get out of these things and where is the room service with the champagne look, and -- what? yours, Peter T. |
