I've seen an autoharp on ebay's US site, and thought I might bid for it. I e mailed the vendor asking if would accept a Visa or a Mastercard payment, and he mailed me back to say he'd prefer me to wire him money, and/or to send him an identifying pic as well. The guy appears to have a business, and has a list of other items for sale, and his own ebay shop site. Why do you think he won't take a bank card payment?

some small busniesses don't do plastic, period, we have the same problem with UK & Irish vendors on ebay, they want to be paid in pounds, or euros, no credit card, I guess fees vary for the dealer as well.

What he said was that he would prefer me to wire the money, and would take plastic if I wired him photo ID to back it up. What I can't understand is what good this would do him in Santa Rosa. I've bought loads of things from the states with plastic, and haven't encountered this problem before. The bidding is now getting a bit near my limit anyway, so problem may disappear soon.
