Hi, new here, this site is great! (I would say this site rocks, but, heh-heh.) Over ten years ago a friend gave me a cassette identified only as "Celtic Celebration" and "Highland Fling" I, II, and III. In all those years, I have identified only one recording, "Lady Isabel and the Elf Knight," sung by Michael Cooney at the Philadelphia Folk Festival, 1977. If anyone has a table of contents for the Philadelphia Folk Festival, which was released on Flying Fish Records in 1978, that *might* help. If that's not what I'm looking for, Michael Cooney says this song has not been included on any other collection. Also, I've been unable to find any collection by those titles fitting the description. This is three cassette tapes worth of music, so, here are my questions:
1. Is it okay if I post a brief description of each song for people to tell or guess what they might be?
2. Can I *please* post them all under the same thread?

You probably could do the first, but it would be easier to get an answer if you separated them, identifying each thread with something significant about the song in question.

If that isn't possible, perhaps you might put a blanket thread using Philadelphia Folk Festival and year to pique the interest of someone knowledgable about that. Just Celtic Collections may not interest the person(s) who might know.

Also named as (possibly) appearing on the record are (no first name) Monroe; Louis Killen; (no first name) Lloyd; John Jackson; Odetta; Norman Blake.

Wow, thanks, that helps already! I was hoping to post all descriptions under one thread to keep it straight for myself, but if, as I suspect, the tape was put together from various sources, yes, separate might be easier for other people. Should I search under my name to find all my threads (in case some prove more popular than others)?

Tell you what; rather than start a whole raft of new threads straight away, why not post your questions to this one first, since it's here? Then you'll only need to start new enquiries for those that don't get answered, and we'll have a little less material to wade through and keep track of, perhaps. George is right about the thread title, of course, but you weren't to know that. "Celtic" is such a widely misused and misunderstood term nowadays that it puts some people off and confuses others mightily (much the same as "folk music" after the marketing boys got their hands on it). Not to worry. Plenty of people round here like a challenge, so bring them on...

Start here.

Now as for keeping track. Well, the BEST way is to join the Mudcat. Then you can TRACE any and all threads which are of interest to you.

You can also click on Guest, Cori in the From section and it will show all the messages you posted as "Guest, Cori".

I still say the best is to join us.
