I like Monty Python's song inferring a neagtive answer to this question - wish I could remember it, part of it went something like:

All things brute and ugly
All creatures short and squat
All things sick and bubbly
The lord God made the lot.

Each lousy little mozzie
Each beastly little squid
Each nasty little insect
Who made them all? He did.

Reminds me of David Attenborough being asked whether his work with wildlife made him a believer in God's creation - he mentioned a certain kind of parasitic worm which lives nowhere else but in the human eyeball, sending it blind...

Sorry Bob. My spouse just pointed out that not only do I not know what betes noires are, I don't even know how to write the singluar. She says she has a few, among them my being retired, but I don't think I'm up to having any; not any time soon. As a child, I remember being caught and eaten by one in a dream. It was very realistic and I can still feel his/her teeth crunching my bones as I write. That is probably the reason I haven't tamed any and kept them around the house. Wow, Bob Bolton, are betes noires something Australians get. I know thousands of 'mericans and ain't met one of them yet that had even one betes noire that he will admit to. And you got so many of them that you can just flang them about like so much dust. Well, If you went to the little church in the brush coutry that I went to as a lad, you might of heard a cappella and a capella. Some of the old ladies were very nice but they wandered all over the place on a hymn, hitting the right note sometimes, and sometimes keeping in time. My mother, who had a wonderful voice, was their leader. Now, when I visit home, I am always elected to be their leader. Their voices haven't changed much - but their Spirits are as pure as ever. Barbara Shaw, I wish I knew the song, but I don't. I looked through all my hymnals. Does it have its "own tune" or is it sung to a standard hymn tune? - Philip Hudson

So I've been misusing it all these years! (Actually, my Webster's New Collegiate says that either spelling is used, not that I ever looked before. But the book is pretty old.)

So, does anyone have any verses?

I hope it is really 'a cappella' (in church/chapel style) and not in the style of a she-goat.

Just looking for lyrics, not answers. Doyle Lawson does this song a capella on a recent album (can't remember the name) and it says in the liner notes that these are the only verses they remember from childhood, but that there are dozens. Anyone got anymore? It's a great harmony song, and we could use more verses for a church service we've been asked to provide music for.
