Friend of mine used to work for Firestone tyres, they had a spoof company prayer that started.

Our Father, who art in Akron,
Harvey be thy name.

Don't remember any more, but it was fun at the time.
Giok

I found this at www.rockzilla.net:

Gobel and Leroy Drumm's "Bad Day In Akron," played here by Don Rigsby, is another example of how the "blue lonesome" concept continues to be an important compositional element in modern bluegrass songwriting and how the simple, direct lyrical approach is still what the best of bluegrass is all about.

Had a Clark bar for my breakfast
Swallowed down by a cup of coffee from an old machine
Spent the last cent I had on me
Now I'm down to just my jacket and my jeans
What a man won't do for a woman
On a slim chance she might've changed her mind
Hitch-hiked all the way to Akron
Now I'm stuck beside the city limits sign

Katlaughing,
I'm beholden to you - being Brit, I wouldn't have known a proprietary brand thing from the US, I will buy the beers when/if we meet,
Thanks again,

Greycap, you're on! Though, I wouldn't have known the brand name, either. I think, if I do remember rightly, there was an old candy bar called by that name, but I couldn't swear to it.:-)

Thanks,

kat

"I want a Clark Bar," was the slogan, usually spoken by a talking animal, way back in the early 50s. Used to walk by the Clark Bar factory on the North Side of Pittsburgh every morning on my way to Daniel Webster Grade School. The building which housed the factory still exists.

BAD DAY IN AKRON
As sung by Don Rigsby

Had a Clark bar for my breakfast
Swallowed down my cup of coffee from an old machine
Spent the last cent I had on me
Now I'm down to just my jacket and my jeans
What a man won't do for a woman
On a slim chance that she might have changed her mind
Hitchhiked all the way to Akron
Now I'm stuck beside the city limits sign

Country mountie stopped hs car
And asked me for my business and my name
Said the weather's getting chilly
And I told him he didn't have to explain
When he asked me where I was going
I told him "where the icy rain don't fall"
The he left me out here standing
I guess the mountie didn't care at all

Chorus

It's a bad day in Akron
I should have stayed in sunny Tennessee
The way that woman beats me down
I know someday she'll be the death of me
This time I've learned my lesson
And I know the price of love just don't come free
It's a bad day in Akron
I should have stayed in sunny Tennessee

It's three in the morning
And I'm miles and miles from where I ought to be
Spent the whole day talking to her
When I should have stayed in sunny Tennessee
She don't care how much I'm hurting
She don't even want me back, she made it plain
It's a long way home from Akron
When you're all alone and thumbin' in the rain

Chorus
It's a bad day in Akron
I should have stayed in sunny Tennessee
The way that woman beats me down
I know she'll be the death of me
This time I've learned my lesson
And I know the price of love just don't come free
It's a bad day in Akron
I should have stayed in sunny Tennessee
