Help
The gremlins struck and trashed my hard disk so everything I had from Mudcat has gone, including the stuff I transcribed and posted myself. (if anyone mentions backups I shall stick pins in dolls and you will suffer).
Is there anyway I can easily go through the postings for the past 12 months and copy where necessary. I can get a lot by downloading the database again and that i will do but it's some of the stuff that didn't make it in this time that I'm after.
Regards Baz.
Art I could do with a witicism!

Baz, I can feel with you. Someone has without malice but with great effect destroyed all my carefully assorted folk bookmarks on this computer, and this is much more easy to restore than what you have lost.

As for your restoration program, if I enter BAZ in the UserName window of the Forum Search I get many if not all of you contributions back to 28-Jan-98. Perhaps that helps a bit.

Wolfgang

Hey BAZ, bummer! I b'lieve Art said he was headed off to the land of 1000 lakes for treatment... maybe this will cheer you up in his stead... Blessings, Barbara who hasn't got her data backed up either, guess I better learn how to do that in W95, hmmm?

YESTERDAY,

Yesterday,
All those backups seemed a waste of pay.
Now my database has gone away.
Oh I believe in yesterday.

Suddenly,
There's not half the files there used to be,
And there's a milestone
hanging over me
The system crashed so suddenly.

I pushed something wrong
What it was I could not say.

Now all my data's gone
and I long for yesterday-ay-ay-ay.

Yesterday,
The need for back-ups seemed so far away.
I knew my data was all here to stay,
Now I believe in yesterday.

Barbara
Thanks made us laugh out loud. With your permission my wife will post a copy in the school computer room.
Many a true word sung in jest!
Thanks again Baz

G'day,
There was a young fella called Jack
Who never had been known to back
Up his hard disk
"She'll be right, mate, no risk"
And now his files aren't worth a zack.

Sorry Baz.

Note that the fourth line is a particularly Aussie expression.

Cheers,
Alan

'She'll be right' is like `it's okay', right?
But what about 'zack'? Is that 'zip', 'zero', or is it worse?
And BAZ by all means post it wherever...it's just one of those things that showed up in my email one day... no idea who wrote it.
Blessings,
Barbara

G'day Barbara,
Zack is (was?) slang for 'sixpence' and probably not confined to the antipodes. We officially changed our sixpences to 5 cent coins in 1966.

So zack is a little better than zip or zilch but not much.

Cheers,
Alan

Hey, now I know what zack is as well as tooneys (sp?) so I'm ready to head down under.
At least I think I do, it's the same as two looneys, right?
Barbara

Thanks for the chat you folks.
Alan I'm quite familiar with Aussie habits. I had the (mis)fortune to share a flat with 2 guys from Perth who won a nationwide T.V. talent contest back in the 70s and their prize was to play on a ship coming to England. as they were both due for national service at that time they took the first available and stayed here in England for qiute a few years. They were orig a trio but one got homesick so I joined up with them. sadly I never made it to Oz though.
By the way slang for sixpence was Tanner in the UK. regards Baz
