Subject: Jean Ritchie website update From: GUEST,Jon Pickow Date: 06 Dec 02 - 12:49 PM Hi all, Just wanted to let you know that I've put Jean's Wintergrace Video back on the website. A lot of people requested it. This year, I've got the video formats right, and we optimized it for web viewing by making some of the more moody scenes brighter so you can see what's going on. Mom asked me to put up a link here as her Christmas card to all of you...enjoy! Jon http://www.jeanritchie.com |

Subject: RE: Jean Ritchie website update From: pattyClink Date: 06 Dec 02 - 02:59 PM WOW! Lovely piece. Jean, has your voice actually lowered or does it just sound more mellow? Or is it me? Really enjoyed the song and the singer, AND the visual poetry. There was talk on another thread about how great it is to hear a real and sincere voice that's also pretty, not a pretty voice that's all hung up on its own sound or what style is in vogue. Brava! And, perhaps Jon is the one who should be putting together REAL folk specials for PBS! and Merry Christmas back 'atcha! |

Subject: RE: Jean Ritchie website update From: catspaw49 Date: 06 Dec 02 - 09:56 PM Jean, I thank you for that wonderful card as I'm sure many of your other friends here do as well. Simply beautiful.....as always. What a gift you are to all!! Spaw PPSSSSTTTT ... HEY JON!!! A very nice job on your part as well...and a thanks to you too. NOW, don't tell your Mom I mentioned this, but I think you should try to convince her that she needs to put out a boxed set of her work. We had that discussion here awhile back and I think she really needs to reconsider the idea. Lots of interesting ways of putting it together.......Anyway, you might mention it to her again huh?......Spaw |

Subject: RE: Jean Ritchie website update From: kytrad (Jean Ritchie) Date: 09 Dec 02 - 05:35 PM Yes, I did write the song- years ago, before living in the city and learning that snow is a catastrophe, rather than the winter blessing it was in my childhood! Thank you all for your good words- a timely gift for my 80th birthday, yesterday December 8... THANKS! Jean |

Subject: RE: Jean Ritchie website update From: kytrad (Jean Ritchie) Date: 13 Dec 02 - 08:44 PM Just one more little thing- George wants everyone to know that HE did the video, not Jon! But of course Jon helped, and he's certainly indispensible around here- we couldn't mange our computers without him and that's a fact. He's also a great banjo-picker and singer, and many other fine things. George is OK too...that's fairly obvious, since we've STAYED married for 51+ years! After the holiday George threatens to replace, "Wintergrace" with another one we did when the notion was on us, a song called, "Too Many Shadows," another one that not too many folks sing, but somehow I like it. It'll probably get popular after I'm gone west! |
