Don't remember much about the flick, any more hints about the song. Barry

Hi,

It sounds vaguely like the one Billy Connolly used during the closing credits of his "World tour of Scotland", possibly written by Ralph McTell, like a lot of the songs from the series.

"Oh won't you stay, stay a while with your own ones."

Does it sound familiar?

Slainte

Alison

Check the Van Morrison with the Chieftains album. I thought he (Van) wrote it.

It sounded like a Van Morrison Song. I'm not sure which album. Could check the movie credits.

The song is "Irish Heartbeat", indeed, with the Chieftains, same title as the CD.

I checked again."Stay with your own one" is a fragment from Irish Heartbeat. It was written and performed by Van Morrison on the album of the same name that he did with the Chieftains. It's the song from The Matchmaker .

I found the lyrics here (click), and there's lots more good stuff to be found at that site. Is it the song that was requested? Was it in "The Matchmaker"?

IRISH HEARTBEAT
(Words and Music by Van Morrison)

Oh won't you stay, stay awhile
With your own ones.
Don't ever stray, stray so far
From your own ones.
This old world is so cold.
Don't care nothin' for your soul
You share with your own ones.

Don't rush away, rush away
From your own ones.
Just one more day, one more day
With your own ones.
For the world is so cold.
Don't care nothin' for your soul
You share with your own ones.

Bridge:
There's a stranger and he's
Standing at your door.
May be your best friend
Might be your brother,
You may never know.

I'm going back, going back
To my own ones.
Back to talk, talk awhile
With my own ones.
For the world is so cold.
Don't care nothing for your soul
You share with your own ones.

The original version of the song is on "Inarticulate Speeches of the Heart".

There's another version on a Van tribute album called "No Prima Donna" performed as a duet by his daughter Shana and Brian Kennedy.

I think the best version is the one with the Chieftains.

Callie
