Subject: Seamas Kennedy/Pyrates Royale Gig From: Celtic Soul Date: 15 Dec 02 - 11:35 AM Hello, all... I completely forgot to post this before this weekend, when Seamus and my group did a joint Holiday concert at the Prince Theater in historic Chestertown on Marylands Eastern Shore. However, there's still a chance for any of you folks in this area (and a better chance for anyone a little north of this area) to catch us *next* weekend, when we take the show to Bethlehem, PA. In addition to Seamas and the Pyrates, we will also be performing with Irish Stepdancers from the Maureen O'Grady School. If you're lucky (and Seamus has had enough Irish Whiskey), he might actually get out there with the girls for a step or 2. Join us for a musical night of revelry, frivolity and seasonal good times. Come enjoy a Celtic Christmas celebration. For ticket information, check out the Pyrates website, and look in our schedule. www.pyrates.com (I'd have blickified it, but every attempt I made with the blickifier turned out not to work...sorry) There will be a bright star in the east, follow that to Bethlehem...but, if it's cloudy, take these directions: Take 378 into Bethlehem, PA. Expressway ends; you take a left at Third Street. Go left at the second light (New Street) and go over the bridge. Take a left at the light at the end of the bridge on to Lehigh Street. (Sign on right for Icehouse) Turn left just past Main Street Depot, go over short bridge and Icehouse is on the left. |

Subject: RE: Seamas Kennedy/Pyrates Royale Gig From: Celtic Soul Date: 15 Dec 02 - 12:39 PM Thanks one and all for the blickies!! As for telling you how it went, I can say that this *past* weekend was a hell of a lot of fun! Seamus was...well, he was Seamus! Always funny, always fun, always offering some of the best music anyone could offer with the sound of the voice that continues to win WAMMIES over and over. I am always astounded by the size of the mans repetoire, and it just seems to keep growing by leaps and bounds. My band had a blast fracturing some of the old classic holiday music as well as doing some of our usual stuff, and the Step Dancers were awesome! The evening ended with a sort of free form jam with Seamus and the Pyrates doing some serious and seriously fun Carols. Silent Night had 4 different languages: Irish, German, French, and drunken. Oops...that would have been if I had a solo...it was English. PA. has the makings of an even grander time, as the seating is for something like 300, and the event will draw more folks. The bigger the audience, the more fun the show. Hope to see some of you there! |
Subject: RE: Seamas Kennedy/Pyrates Royale Gig From: MMario Date: 15 Dec 02 - 08:22 PM I certainly can't think of anything that would raise MY holiday spirits more then to see both Seamus AND the Pyrates on stage! (and believe me I TRIED to think of a way to get to one of these concerts!!!!) |
Subject: RE: Seamas Kennedy/Pyrates Royale Gig From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 16 Dec 02 - 01:17 AM Oh, Celtic Soul, you're just saying that because we HAD A BLAST!. The beautifully restored Prince Theater in Chestertown MD, was a lovely venue for the Christmas Show, and the Ice House in Bethlehem, PA is gonna be great. This will be my 4th year taking my Christmas show to Bethlehem (how appropriate!) and I can't think of a more fun gang to do it with than the Pyrates Royale. Silly, serious, seafaring and landlubbing and all in the spirit of the season. Hope to see some 'Catters there! C'mon up and say Hi. Seamus |

I knew I shouldn't have worn my kilt. Seamus It's a delight to work with youse guys!! |
Subject: RE: Seamas Kennedy/Pyrates Royale Gig From: MMario Date: 30 Dec 02 - 09:17 AM I may get into trouble for this.... but check out THIS link. Web page put up by a member of the Alt.Fairs.Renaissance newsgroup that attended the performance. I particularly like Seamus the Pyrate! |
Subject: RE: Seamas Kennedy/Pyrates Royale Gig From: GUEST,bettyhicklin@aol.com Date: 31 Dec 02 - 07:07 AM I have a question for you Seamas. The tune from the quiet man Think it started out.... There was a boy from Ireland, ? Doogan was his name. He went to Australia, Got in trouble, etc. etc. etc. Do you have this on any of your tapes? If so I would like to have a cd. Let me know. bettyhicklin@aol.com See you at the Scotch Irish festival in Estes Park. Thank you so much! |
Subject: RE: Seamas Kennedy/Pyrates Royale Gig From: Charley Noble Date: 31 Dec 02 - 09:00 AM Quite a link, MMario! Looks like the show was a lot of fun. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Seamas Kennedy/Pyrates Royale Gig From: *#1 PEASANT* Date: 31 Dec 02 - 09:26 AM for me the larger the venue the less the folk experience.... large venues mean more putting money from one pocket to the next... Never much of a Pyrate.... There is something about tickets that really turns me off. For me revelry is for the sidewalk and streets...tickets...who needs em! Conrad |
Subject: RE: Seamas Kennedy/Pyrates Royale Gig From: Big Mick Date: 31 Dec 02 - 10:01 AM Betty, it sounds like "The Wild Colonial Boy". There are a couple of versions in the Digitrad. Here is a link to one of them THE WILD COLONIAL BOY. I took a look at the songlists on all of Seamus' current CD's and didn't see it listed. Unless I missed it. Mick |
Subject: RE: Seamas Kennedy/Pyrates Royale Gig From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 01 Jan 03 - 12:07 AM Mmario, thanks for the photo links. Yes I sacrificed my dignity in the name of family entertainment! It was fun being a Pyrate with an eyepatch and a hook hand and a great mound of parrot droppings on my shoulder. Betty, Big Mick is right - it is The Wild Colonial Boy, and I haven't recorded that one. But lots of other people have, most notably the Clancy Brothers. Thanks for providing the link, Mick. And a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year to all Mudcatters and their families. Seamus (I've no idea why Celtic Soul incorrectly, but I'm willing to wager it was the grog!) |
Subject: RE: Seamas Kennedy/Pyrates Royale Gig From: Peter Kasin Date: 01 Jan 03 - 04:13 PM I saw the Pyrates Royale at the NAI conference in Virginia Beach in November, where they performed at an evening awards ceremony. They were hilarious! What a party band! Sort of a stand-up comedy act with instruments. Their Crosby, Stills and Nash take-off has to be seen: "Our boat, is a very very very fine boat, with two rats in the hold..." Everyone over 40 was laughing their heads off. Everyone under had no idea what was going on with that. Chanteyranger |

Subject: RE: Seamas Kennedy/Pyrates Royale Gig From: Rapparee Date: 03 Jan 03 - 08:13 PM On December 30 I saw Seamus at Harry Browne's in Annapolis; on the 31st I attended First Night Annapolis and saw Pyrates Royale. Even bought his Christmas album from Seamus.... BOTH were excellent -- truly first class. (Although where I was sitting during Seamus's performance the audience seemed to be conducting a reunion instead attending a program and finally their smoking drove us out -- my wife was coming down with a cold and our friend had one. No fault of Seamus's that some of the audience were boors.) Seamus -- I'll be back another Monday night. Probably when you least expect it. And I'll be watching the Pyrates, too. And recommending both to anyone who is foolish enough to ask me "What's there to do in Annapolis, anyway?" |
