A friend of a friend is looking for classes anywhere in the U. S., maybe at community colleges, on making and repairing stringed instruments. I think he's particularly interested in guitars. Can anyone help out? On his behalf, thanks in advance!

Try going to The musicians and Instrument Maker's forum and either checking out their links page or posting your query.

There's a four year violin making school in Salt Lake City, Peter Paul Prier & Sons. I don't know if they offer single classes or if they require you to register full time.

Jerry,

FRETS.COM has lots of good info on instrument construction and repair. I believe they're based in California.

Luthier's Merchantile has information on guitar making and repair including info on the American School of Lutherie. Their catalog is expensive at $20 but worth every penny.
