Subject: personnel problems in 1 man band From: wilco Date: 24 Dec 02 - 09:56 AM McGrath of Harlow pointed out the fact that these bands break-up with such acrimony. What kind of personnel problems do you foresee? |
Subject: RE: personnel problems in 1 man band From: C-flat Date: 24 Dec 02 - 10:08 AM You might find that getting everyone together for regular rehearsals is a problem. Also artistic differences could be an issue. Always make sure the Right hand knows what the Left's doing! Many bands have split up because of outside interference from girlfriends or wives. It's important that wives and girlfriends can get along together, a difficult enough feat in any band, made even more tricky in a one-man band! C-flat. |
Subject: RE: personnel problems in 1 man band From: GUEST,fogie Date: 24 Dec 02 - 10:33 AM We, the members of the multiple personality society are taking keen interest in this discussion, and will make a mission statement following the next general meeting to put forward our committees latest appraisal. We have found that unfortunately this can take several months as trying to come to any decision is like herding cats, or juggling smoke! The secretary. |
Subject: RE: personnel problems in 1 man band From: Amos Date: 24 Dec 02 - 02:02 PM Well, if your one-man band is having problems, you should get together and have a heart-to-nose talk, probably. Multiple personalities are an asset as long as you have good management skills!! A |
Subject: RE: personnel problems in 1 man band From: Cluin Date: 24 Dec 02 - 04:11 PM What about when some members of the 1MB volunteer your services for what they think is a worthy cause without consulting the others. Leads to a lot of resentment. |
Subject: RE: personnel problems in 1 man band From: John MacKenzie Date: 24 Dec 02 - 04:16 PM My mother always said that playing with yourself can lead to all sorts of problems. Are you having problems with your eyesight? Giok |

Subject: RE: personnel problems in 1 man band From: Bill D Date: 24 Dec 02 - 07:05 PM "Oh, listen to this one-man band, He plays by foot, by mouth, by hand. His music is a poor excuse. It's corn mixed up with lemon juice! That's 'cause this guy must play alone, His violin and saxophone. But if you want good harmony, Takes more than one, takes two or three." tune:Turkey in the Straw from old (1950s) public service TV spot about 'social harmony' with crude cartoons of the Lionel Hampton Quartet. (with aa little 'sermon' after the song) (why do I remember THIS stuff?) |
Subject: RE: personnel problems in 1 man band From: Dead Horse Date: 24 Dec 02 - 08:38 PM I split up from my one man band, as I was the one who was always expected to drive, while the others got pissed. (AND I had to carry all the gear) |
Subject: RE: personnel problems in 1 man band From: rangeroger Date: 25 Dec 02 - 01:59 AM Well,if you get so frustrated with your band members that you are beside yourself, learn a new instrument. rr |
Subject: RE: personnel problems in 1 man band From: GUEST,Jay Kruse Date: 04 Dec 20 - 07:12 PM Bill D Maybe you remember this stuff so I am not the only one. Thanks |
Subject: RE: personnel problems in 1 man band From: gillymor Date: 05 Dec 20 - 04:21 AM We've got this one dude who just won't behave. He's eating the band leader's food, sleeping with the band leader's wife and hogging the spotlight on stage. As band leader it's my job to fire him but who'll cover the next gig. |
Subject: RE: personnel problems in 1 man band From: lefthanded guitar Date: 05 Dec 20 - 03:47 PM The harmonica player is always on the wrong key. Banjo player cheap and never replaces his strings. Bass drum is usually off the beat. ( Also the castenet player is a rather disagreeable chap who snacks on raw garlic cloves , which annoys the accordionist no end .) As you can see, it's impossible to find a mediator in the group to resolve these long simmering resentments. It' s been going on for 18 years and they 're still fighting amongst themselves . |
Subject: RE: personnel problems in 1 man band From: PHJim Date: 06 Dec 20 - 01:30 AM Jesse Fuller was interviewed in an old "folk" magazine. He said that he used to play with other musicians but got fed up. "Since I've started this one man band, not one member has shown up late or drunk." |
Subject: RE: personnel problems in 1 man band From: Mr Red Date: 06 Dec 20 - 03:13 AM What happens in the situation of 1 man banned? |
Subject: RE: personnel problems in 1 man band From: Mo the caller Date: 06 Dec 20 - 06:45 AM You should sink you differences (to below the line, possibly) |
Subject: RE: personnel problems in 1 man band From: leeneia Date: 08 Dec 20 - 11:07 AM Years ago I read a book called "Your Inner Child of the Past." The author traced adult behaviors to treatment in childhood, and the only one I can remember is that the child who is constantly supervised and nagged (Put on your shoes! Brush your teeth! Comb your hair! Where is your bookbag?) grows up to be a procrastinator. So a one-man band could have personnel problems if one is the adult and the other person is his inner child. I think of the inner child when the Time Team show has a visiting expert who lowers her head and mumbles inaudible remarks about a find. In her I see a child who was constantly told to be quiet and never be conspicuous. (Not all such experts are female.) Meanwhile, the DH and I as viewers are wondering why the director of the show puts up with this behavior. |
Subject: RE: personnel problems in 1 man band From: BobL Date: 09 Dec 20 - 03:18 AM Maybe the child was a procrastinator, needing to be nagged to get anything done, and never grew out of it. |
Subject: RE: personnel problems in 1 man band From: Dave the Gnome Date: 09 Dec 20 - 09:58 AM I've had problems with my sex life since I fell and broke my wrist :-D (Fred Wedlock - The Folker) |
Subject: RE: personnel problems in 1 man band From: Acorn4 Date: 09 Dec 20 - 11:51 AM I've written a song in the style of Oasis and find half way through I'm having irreconcilable differences with myself. ThreeMinute Limit |
