Mandolin Q--Get Up John

This one's for you, Mando'Cats!

Reynaud's learning "Get Up John" from a Bill Monroe recording, and is wondering if anyone knows how he (Monroe) gets the effect of two mandolins playing simultaneously.

Do any of you folks play the tune?

I retune my mandolin as follows: Lower one of the E strings all the way down to A (same as second strings), and the other E down to D. Raise one of the G strings to A, lower the other G string to F#. I think this is the same as Monroe's tuning, but there are some variations out there. Ricky Skaggs' version of the song is quite good, also.

Since it's a recording, I would suspect "multi tracking".
