You don't mean the song "Turn, Turn, Turn, do you? (Written by Pete Seeger, based on a text from Ecclesiastes, and a big hit for "The Byrds.)
That one is in the DT, I'm sure, and/or in forum threads.

If you mean a different song, what you've posted doesn't ring a bell with me.   Do you have more info, like who sang it?

Subject: Lyr Add: TURN A DEAF EAR (Rab Noakes)
From: C-flat
Date: 05 Jan 03 - 05:25 AM

I'd forgotten this song until just now, and I used to perform it once!
It's a Lindisfarne song called "TURN A DEAF EAR".

Turn a deaf ear   ( Rab Noakes )   from: Nicely out of tune
---------------

Intro:        D

1.)
The stage director stood up when he called the actors down
      A                    G                      D
he asked them all to say three words, up down and around
      A                          G                    Em7/9            D
so up down and around they cry with one according voice
   A                 G                    D
and up down and around they went, for it was their only choice.
    A                 G                    Em7/9                   D

Chorus:
I can only turn again, to the front again
D            Em                A        D
only to turn again, to the rear
D         Em            A       D
turn again, turn again, turn turn turn again
D            Em                       A           D
I can listen, but I can't hear.
D        Em         G           D

2.)
My friends girl she has a wireless aerial sticking out of her head
    A                            G                    D
and a pile of true romances lying underneath the bed
        A              G                   Em7/9                 D
and a giant poster of Robby Noakes just beside the door
        A                G            D
but I know she'll get along find without him if it doesn't see her anymore.
        A                    G                            Em7/9                      D

Chorus:
I can only turn again, to the front again
D            Em                A        D
only to turn again, to the rear
D         Em            A       D
turn again, turn again, turn turn turn again
D            Em                       A           D
I can listen, but I can't hear.
D        Em         G           D

3.)
The strings were cut from the guitar puppet singer on the stage
        A                        G              D
and his music became furious and he's stamped his foot in rage
         A                G               Em7/9                    D
the girls all screamed in agony, the boys they gaped in fear
      A                            G               D
and the song was called 'have mercy baby', have mercy on my ear.
         A                           G                Em7/9            D

Chorus:
I can only turn again, to the front again
D            Em                A        D
only to turn again, to the rear
D         Em            A       D
turn again, turn again, turn turn turn again
D            Em                       A           D
I can listen, but I can't hear.
D        Em         G           D

4.)
I remember what the old man said on his little wooden stand
    A                    G                         D
as he spoke very quietly with a waving of his hand
       A           G                 Em7/9               D
every pigeon do its own hole, but what he seemed to say
A            G                           D
I know I should go looking for, a better place to stay.
A                    G                 Em7/9                   D

Chorus:
I can only turn again, to the front again
D            Em                A        D
only to turn again, to the rear
D         Em            A       D
turn again, turn again, turn turn turn again
D            Em                       A           D
I can listen, but I can't hear
D        Em         G           D
turn again, turn again, turn turn turn again
D            Em                       A           D
I can listen, but I can't hear.
D        Em         G           D

Thanks to all, and to C-flat for his response. Indeed this is the song and I shall now sleep easier in my bed. I frail a mean banjo and this sounds a must. Good night and God bless.

Subject: Lyr Add: PERCY'S SONG (Bob Dylan)
From: Matthias
Date: 06 Jan 03 - 01:05 PM

Is this song related to Dylan's "Percy's Song?"

"PERCY'S SONG" By Bob Dylan

"Bad news, bad news,
Come to me where I sleep,
Turn, turn, turn again.
Sayin' one of your friends
Is in trouble deep,
Turn, turn to the rain
And the wind.

Tell me the trouble,
Tell once to my ear,
Turn, turn, turn again.
Joliet prison
And ninety-nine years,
Turn, turn to the rain
And the wind.

Oh what's the charge
Of how this came to be,
Turn, turn, turn again.
Manslaughter
In the highest of degree,
Turn, turn to the rain
And the wind.

I sat down and wrote
The best words I could write,
Turn, turn, turn again.
Explaining to the judge
I'd be there on Wednesday night,
Turn, turn to the rain
And the wind.

Without a reply,
I left by the moon,
Turn, turn, turn again.
And was in his chambers
By the next afternoon,
Turn, turn to the rain
And the wind.

Could ya tell me the facts?
I said without fear,
Turn, turn, turn again.
That a friend of mine
Would get ninety-nine years,
Turn, turn to the rain
And the wind.

A crash on the highway
Flew the car to a field,
Turn, turn, turn again.
There was four persons killed
And he was at the wheel,
Turn, turn to the rain
And the wind.

But I knew him as good
As I'm knowin' myself,
Turn, turn, turn again.
And he wouldn't harm a life
That belonged to someone else,
Turn, turn to the rain
And the wind.

The judge spoke
Out of the side of his mouth,
Turn, turn, turn again.
Sayin', "The witness who saw,
He left little doubt,"
Turn, turn to the rain
And the wind.

That may be true,
He's got a sentence to serve,
Turn, turn, turn again.
But ninety-nine years,
He just don't deserve,
Turn, turn to the rain
And the wind.

Too late, too late,
For his case it is sealed,
Turn, turn, turn again.
His sentence is passed
And it cannot be repealed,
Turn, turn to the rain
And the wind.

But he ain't no criminal
And his crime it is none,
Turn, turn, turn again.
What happened to him
Could happen to anyone,
Turn, turn to the rain
And the wind.

And at that the judge jerked forward
And his face it did freeze,
Turn, turn, turn again.
Sayin', "Could you kindly leave
My office now, please,"
Turn, turn to the rain
And the wind.

Well his eyes looked funny
And I stood up so slow,
Turn, turn, turn again.
With no other choice
Except for to go,
Turn, turn to the rain
And the wind.

I walked down the hallway
And I heard his door slam,
Turn, turn, turn again.
I walked down the courthouse stairs
And I did not understand,
Turn, turn to the rain
And the wind.

And I played my guitar
Through the night to the day,
Turn, turn, turn again.
And the only tune
My guitar could play
Was, "Oh the Cruel Rain
And the Wind."
