Every once in awhile I come across a thread about a particular Mudcatter, and so far I've successfully avoided starting one myself. All it takes is a quick listen to the Mudcat CDs to see that there are many, many Catters who deserve the greatest praise for their music. But I tell ya, Mistuh Tweed is somethun else! I've heard a lot of white folkses do blues, including Dave Van Ronk, who I took lessons from. Once in awhile I hear a white folks doing the blues, and I don't think about them being white, black, or even tweed.
They've made the music their own. They reflect their influences, but they don't sound like them. They've taken that magical step from being a copy to being an original.

If you want hear some fine blues that sounds old and fresh and new, all at the same time, check out Tweed's website at Tweedsblues. Just type inTweedsblues, and when his home page comes up, click on his badly recorded blues and hear for yourself.

Now, Mistuh Tweed, I'd like to hear them blues recorded even better..

Jerry

Yow! After a stressed out day at work and fighting my way through traffic I come home to find THIS on the Mudcat. Thanks to guys very much for the kind words and thanks Jerry for making a post about the Bad Recordings. I have never had such high praise from anywhere, but I'd hesitate to make a well recorded Bad Recording as the ceiling fan, dog barks, and window unit airconditioner cover up a multitude of my sins. Thanks again and I am going off to fill the sink with ice and soak my head in it to keep the swelling down. I now know what John Merrick must have felt like ;~)
Gratefully yerz,
Tweed

Maybe what I need to send you, Tweezer is Sample The Dog by Timbuk 3.
If you tape your dog, then you can discreetly dub his bark over any mistakes that you make. Not a bad idea... maybe I'll try that with the Messengers...

What's this???? I been tryin to intro Mudchaps to Tweedsburg for fourteen years now and got abosolutely no response! None! Zip! Zilch!

Then this Ragmuffin fellow comes in and people are fallin all over the place, trying to fix his link, or trying to get into the Tweediot's place.

I grew up lissenin to Tweed's Badly Recorded Blues and no one hears me when I brag on the stuff, but Razmussic... they listen to what he has to say!

There's somethin' going on here, and I don't know what it is. Do I, Mr. Jones?

Hmmmm....that would be a lotta dog barking, Jer. He really has better timing than I do so mebbe we could make a tape of the dog and just dub myself in when he gets off a little. Have to catch the old boy in the morning when the squirrels are shakin' their tails at him. He gets goin' pretty good then, but sleeps the rest of the day, matter of fack he's conked out on my feet already. Not a bad life.

Possibly we could interest Dick Greenhouse in this venture and market Oz the BluesDog CD's at CAMSCO Music ;~) Dick? Are you with us on this one?...Mr. Greenhouse, you out there?... must've stepped out fer a minute....mebbe Folkways then...

Thanks Guy but seriously now.....Mudcat heaven?? "Tweed" and "Wonderful music" mentioned in the same sentence?? Amos concurring with Khandu on something?? Bobert eaten alive by Catwimmen??..Uncle Trent searches for black members?..... Has a portion of the Mudcat somehow slipped into Bizarro World???

If Deacon Rasmussen weren't a gospel singer I'd swear he'd put a mojo on you all;~)
Thanks very much for listening to them. It's good to know that they get clicked onto once in a while!

Yerz,
Bighead Tweed

I was listening to Mississippi John Hurt last night, and you'll never guess - he was doing one of Tweeds songs - Stagolee.

Tweed you're The Man.

As I heard on one of the American shows, "He must be seriously depressed to be able to play the Blues THAT GOOD"
Keep up the good work, and I hope to meet you again in Mudchat soon.

I've already said on another thread that Tweed's track, despite recording quality, was my favourite of the Mudcat blue plate specials.
We bluescats need to keep the folkies in their place!

RtS
(I gotta right to sing the blues)
