We used to have two good words, FAIR meaning an event, and FARE meaning food. Now we see to have one which means either (sometimes).

Canterbury Fayre was a three day music festival held just outside Canterbury, Kent, England in late August 2002. It featured such diverse acts as Arthur Lee, Kevin Ayers, Oystreband, Hawkwind, Jack Bruce, Pretty Things and loads more ...

You are correct MickT. MAN are one of the finest guitar bands of all time. They did play at canterbury albeit without Micky Jones. Their set was too short and they were on too early.

Many Are Called But Few Get Up ...... WILL YOU!!! blam bam bomban da daddle daddle do dar!!!!

Just looking at the photo's make me wish for August. It will be great to see Robert Plant - I'm ashamed to say that the last time I saw him ( with Led Zepplin - thats whats on the ticket ) was in 1971 at the Empire Pool, Row J seat 156 - All for 75pence.
As for Roy Harper - I still remember him at the free Hyde Park festival aobut the same time? and recently at his 60th birthday party and then at the UCL.
Cannot wait to see who else is on the bill.
A very dark starless moonless night - oh for the next Knockholt folk festival which will be completely the reverse.

CAN'T WAIT!!!!
But alas will have to :-( Still, never mind will have to fill the time with loads of other good stuff until then. If you log on to the site and click on the archive and select piccies of 2002, and click on the one of Arthur Brown in the crowd, you can see our Charles Atlas in the shot, sunnies (glasses) fiddling with camera to get a shot of old Arthur. AHHH claims to fame ay! in a photo shot with Arthur Brown --- what a performer that guy is, he was mesmerising.
"Rock n Roll" on August.

Arthur Lee and Love Forever Changes!!?!?!?! Wow, indeed!

Is he alive and well and active in Britain these days? If I'm not mistaken, this is an American act -- at least, Lee and his band first came into the public eye in Los Angeles circa 1967/68 with a unique brand of orchestral rock 'n' roll. This is the first I've heard of him/them since they came out with two quick (and great) albums and faded into three decades of obscurity...

I saw them at Canterbury last year - they're touring Oz at the moment. He was much better than when I saw him in 1970 & 1974. And with the full orchestra he done The Royal Festival hall in January. This gig had been sold out months before, it got rave reviews in our national press!!!

i've heard there was a Canterbury Fayre in 1970 or 71. It was at a little horicultural college 5 miles from canterbury at Nonnington. Think the Grateful Dead where there!!!
