Subject: Lyr Add: Blood Spattered Banner From: Doobie Date: 22 Jan 03 - 10:32 AM Blood Spattered Banner: written by Mickey Sargent, in opposition to the coming conflict in Iraq. Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light, This monstrosity of political might? Whose bullets and bright shells, thro' the uneven fight, From safe distance we watch, oh so gallantly streaming. And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Give proof to the world that they'd better beware. Oh, say, does that blood-spattered banner yet wave O'er the bodies of women and the little child's grave. Oh, thus be it ever when foolish men stand, Safe in their homes far from war's desolation; Blest with comfort and peace, in their wealth-driven land, Praising power that has made them feared as a nation. For conquer they must, though their cause be not just, And this be their motto: "In Might is our trust"; And the blood-spattered banner in triumph shall wave O'er the land of their foe and the home of their slave. |
