Does anyone remember the LYRICS for this STATLER BROS. song...
The name COULD be 'Class of '61', 'That's the way we were in
61' or 'Do you remember these?'.............

PARTS of the LYRICS are..........

'slow dancin close together while the music played',,,,
'.................rock and roll had just begun.....'
then later in the song
'Hank and Lefty crowded every Jukebox,
That's the way it was in '61'

Thanks, Spaw, for those lyrics...BUT THEY ARE NOT THE ONES;
I now know that the name is NOT 'Do you remember these??

I had thought it was named 'That's the Way it was in '61'

It started something like....

'There's things about the good old days I remember well
..........................????????????????????????
Close dancin as the Jukebox played...a thing called Rock & Roll had just begun
It was a great time for the drive-in restaurant ,,,,,,,,,(?)
That's the way it was in '61.

--------------------------??????????????????????????
--------------------------??????????????????????????
Hank and Lefty crowded every Jukebox
That's the way it was in '61.

ANY IDEA WHAT THIS IS OR WHERE I COULD FIND LYRICS; The
Statler's used to sing it on their Saturday night show

The Way it was in '51 (by Merle Haggard apparently). Look at Cowpie. A search for jukebox turns it up.

Sorry 'bout that!! I too just found the ones you want as did MCP above....On Cowpie....Here ya' go:

THE WAY IT WAS IN '51
Writer: Merle Haggard
Singer: Merle Haggard

[C]Sixty-Six was still a narrow two-lane highway
Harry Truman was the man who ran the [G]show
The bad Korean was was just begining
And I was just three years too young to [C]go
Country Music hadn't gone to New York City yet
And a service man was proud of what he'd [F]done
Hank and Lefty crowded ev'ry [C]jukebox
[G]That's the way it was in fifty [C]one.

CHORUS

[G]There's so much about the good old days I'd love to [C]tell
And there's folks around I know still remember [G]well
Slow [C]dancin' close together when a ballad played
'Cause a thing called Rock and Roll was yet to [F]come
(It was) a big year for a drive-in rest'rant [C]carhop
[G]That's the way it was in fifty [C]one.

REPEAT CHORUS

Yeah! Hank and Lefty crowded ev'ry jukebox
Oh Lord That's the way it was in fifty one.

I would have been here sooner, but got involved in looking at Statler Brothers stuff. Love those guys.

Anyway, Gladys, you are very welcome. I know the rest of them are happy to do this.

If you feel comfortable, you can join up and become a member of Mudcat.
