MESSAGES PERTAINING TO THE FUNCTION OF THE SITE SHOULD BE POSTED IN THE HELP FORUM

I've tried doing some searches today and I'm getting consistently a message saying that there's nothing found in the Forum.

I even tried searching for the words Folk Music and got no hits. There must be a problem - or maybe we've never had a discussion on what Folk Music is - although I'd swear I saw one here once !

It just worked for me. I tried "Folk music" and got the current thread "Folk music on the radio"

Sorry. I now realise I should have posted this in the Help Section which I've just discovered. I won't clog up the main threads with this type of thing in future. My problem still persists however.

nope- me neither.is i type 'folk', the search only brings up dt responses but no forum ones.

Declan, please don't think it's just your imagination. I've had that happen to me before, too -- type in the whole thread title, get nothing; type in a single key word from the title, still nothing; then later find the thread by searching all the threads for a given time period and find the thread I was looking for -- exact title and all!

I never have figured out why this happens, but it does sometimes.

I checked with Jeff (Pene Azul) on this. He says the search indexing isn't working on the Forum just now, but should be working for the Digital Tradition (the Digital Tradition stays the same, but the Forum has to be re-indexed all the time. Probably it can't be fixed until Papa Max gets some free time - not likely to happen soon.

I recently tried to find lyrics to some songs I knew I had seen in the discussion forum. Entering a word from the titles produced nothing, so I tried words from recent threads such as "bush", "iraq", and still got no matches. I have used this facility successfully many times in the past. Can anyone suggest what might have gone wrong?

I dunno, but I've had the same problem the last couple days... I was searching for threads on banks of/lakes of ponchatrain in various combinations and found nothing. I was wondering if it was a Mac- or netscape-related glitch? I know search used to work fine for me a week or so ago.

Max has been too busy to fix it since it stopped working about a week ago. It will be back. Meanwhile, you can get some results by using the Forum filter.

I put Yorkshire in the box thingy and nothing came up in the Threads section. I'm sure something must have yorkshire in the title.

the forum portion of the search is down at the moment. try using the thread filter with the date set to a year or more.

I've also had problems, and the following solution may help others.
When I know I've contributed to a thread I call up my list of postings (click on my own name at the start of one of my recent postings)
These come in lists of 200 at a time, running back from the present. I then use the "search this page" function (Under "Edit" on toolbar) to search for a word or phrase which would have been in the thread title.

Put - yorkshire - in Filter and set to All, and a whole page of threads came up. Do not capitalize your entry and try to stick to one word. If that doesn't work, try another. You can still miss, but your chances are good.
