Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival. From: Noreen Date: 02 Sep 03 - 02:55 PM There's more on the website now, Linda (but not a great deal of detail, and NOTHING about camping...). Shellbacks have been asked to host a singaround on tne Friday evening, so come and join us. Who else will be there? |
Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival. From: John Routledge Date: 02 Sep 03 - 03:15 PM Most Shellbacks sing non-sea songs at non-maritime festivals when not performing with the Chorus.A great start to the Festival should be assured at the Friday night sing around venue. Watch this space. If 2000 and 2001 are anything to go by enjoyment overall is guaranteed. |

Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival. From: red max Date: 03 Sep 03 - 05:09 AM I came along on the Saturday last year mainly so my young daughter could enjoy the morris dancing. I must admit that being relatively new to the folk scene I was too shy to hunt out any singing sessions etc. This year I'd really like to meet some mudcatters. Where's the best place to hear and join in some trad singing? |
Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival. From: Noreen Date: 03 Sep 03 - 08:06 AM red max, as soon as I know any more about venues I'll post it here. I'll have my mudcat badge on and will be pleased to meet you. Perhaps someone who knows the festival better than I could suggest a time & location for a mini-mudcat-meetup? |
Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival. From: kitchen piper Date: 04 Sep 03 - 04:38 AM Hi! As a newbie to mudcat, I am badgeless. How would I go about getting one? I saw heaps of people with badges at Whitby, it was really cool! :-)) Vix |
Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival. From: Raggytash Date: 04 Sep 03 - 04:53 AM Noreen, The Mason's, which is across the road diagonally from the Civic Centre may prove to be a good venue, the landlord is folk friendly, decent beer and surroundings. There is often a session in the garden where he provides shelter in the way of a gazebo and he is not averse to us singing in the pub, I think I may recall some late nights there! Sibelius, the offer is still there just make yourself knwon |
Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival. From: red max Date: 04 Sep 03 - 05:06 AM Kitchen Piper - I don't have a badge either. Perhaps we could improvise. If you have a cat I can supply the mud Who's up for a beer in The Mason's, then? |

Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival. From: Mrs.Duck Date: 16 Sep 03 - 12:15 PM Only a few days to go now - looking forward to it. Two days with Tanglefoot and lots and lots of singing with the Shellbacks, singaround on Friday night at Whitakers should be a good starter from 5.30pm. See you all there. |
Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival. From: John Routledge Date: 16 Sep 03 - 01:09 PM Several MudCatters have dual nationality with the Shellback Chorus so for early arrivals from 5.30 Fri in Whitakers where the Shellbacks are hosting the singaround looks good - pending confirmation of an "exclusive" Mudcat Mini Meet elsewhere? |

Weather's lovely at the moment... |
Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival. From: Raggytash Date: 18 Sep 03 - 07:38 AM Noreen I've got a litle clock of yours(I'm sure there's a song in there somewhere) we'll be camping over the weekend and stewarding, starting Friday evening at the town hall/civic hall whatever they call it. They work you hard at Otley, a couple of years ago we ended up doing 11 hours one day and filling in the a compare who didn't materialise ! Will try and ensure you get your clock back !! (I bet there's another song there) |
Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival. From: Noreen Date: 18 Sep 03 - 08:10 AM That little clock of mine (another song) will be pretty well-travelled. Reminds me of a lovely song Sue vG does: ...but as long as you're able to wind up me clock, then I'll have no reason to worry :0) I'm sure I'll clock you over the weekend, Raggy. PS Clocks will all be going back soon. |
Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival. From: muppett Date: 18 Sep 03 - 09:14 AM Look out for the German clock winder as well |

Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival. From: Noreen Date: 19 Sep 03 - 12:52 PM I'm off shortly. Piddling down tho! |
Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival. From: Raggytash Date: 22 Sep 03 - 05:58 AM Well what a good do, Mike Agrinoff, Serious Kitchen, Artisan, Old Rope String Band and Tanglefoot as well as many other great performances. The only sour note was inconsiderate folks on the camp site who seem to think it acceptable to make a great racket at 3 in the morning despite the quiet that prevailed over the surrounding tents, ignoring the fact that a tent had been erected precisely for their use. When asked politely by Wombat to pipe down a tad they became abusive to her and then proceeded to shout how noisy they were going to be the next night. Any ideas how this can be eliminated |
Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival. From: Pied Piper Date: 22 Sep 03 - 06:17 AM Shotgun. PP |
Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival. From: Raggytash Date: 22 Sep 03 - 01:11 PM What a nice idea !! Pity you wouldn't get away with it though |
Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival. From: Kate Date: 22 Sep 03 - 04:31 PM It was lovely to see everyone at the festival. I particularly enjoyed dancing to Whapweasel and listening to the Shellback Chorus. |
Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival. From: Noreen Date: 22 Sep 03 - 07:23 PM You are such a sweetie, Kate :0) Lovely to have you singing with us too. Ah, Whapweasel- so that's who we were dancing to! That was fun. Good to meet blue quiff man too! That Black Sheep went down far too easily. And I didn't get my clock back! |
Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival. From: Raggytash Date: 23 Sep 03 - 05:28 AM Noreen, Darling Re your clock:- I'll keep it safe for another time, would you like me to email a photgraph of it, to show you it is being looked after fed and watered? |
Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival. From: Noreen Date: 23 Sep 03 - 06:06 AM Don't worry, it'll be sorted on 26th October- that's when all the clocks go back. |
Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival. From: KJ Date: 23 Sep 03 - 01:11 PM Nice to see you at Otley Raggy. If you can't beat noisy b*****d's on the campsite I suggest you join them with highland war pipes (lots of them), Oakley's fan club the DGP's, a herd of buffalo, several mating cats, Colin's mums budgie (it's loud!!)& a primary school recorder group. Should make a cacophony enough to send anyone running a mile! Failing that I could always mix up a nice concoction to put in their water bottles /coffee cups/ beer which would put 'em out of action for a while! |
Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival. From: John Routledge Date: 24 Sep 03 - 03:42 AM Great pity about the nocturnal interuptions but otherwise a great atmosphere with many many highlights. |
