Subject: Open sessions in Dublin From: Allan Dennehy Date: 08 Feb 03 - 07:41 AM I'm off home to Ireland this Tuesday for a week. I usually head off down the country to play but I was wondering if there are any singing sessions in Dublin where a travelling musician will get a welcome. Anybody know of any good concerts that are on while I'm over, by the way? |
Subject: RE: Open sessions in Dublin From: Bev and Jerry Date: 08 Feb 03 - 11:40 AM Try the Dublin Traditional Singers every Friday night at Mayes pub, north of the Liffey, north of Parnell Square at the corner of Dorset and whatever O'Connell street is called at that point. We were there last May and had a great evening. Also there's the Fingal Singers Club in Ballyboughal near the airport on Tuesdays. They meet at O'Connor's in Ballyboughal. We went there the night before we flew home. It made us sorry to be leaving. Bev and Jerry |
Subject: RE: Open sessions in Dublin From: GUEST Date: 08 Feb 03 - 03:22 PM The Goilin Club, The Trinity Bar, 37b Pearse St, Dublin 2, every Friday night starting around 10 pm. Songs in Irish and English, with guest singers every 3 weeks or so. Even if you don't get to sing, it is usually well worth the trip, as you get to hear, meet, and enjoy the craic with some really great singers. They even put out a CD awhile back if I'm not mistaken. Here is the Nenagh Singer's Circle's web page listing singing clubs in Ireland: http://www.geocities.com/Broadway/Alley/4749/clubslist.html |
Subject: RE: Open sessions in Dublin From: Bev and Jerry Date: 08 Feb 03 - 05:45 PM We thought they might have moved again. Thanks for the update Guest. By the time we go to Ireland again they'll have moved many more times. Bev and Jerry |
Subject: RE: Open sessions in Dublin From: GUEST Date: 08 Feb 03 - 05:50 PM It's always good to give them a shout before going, just to be sure. |

Subject: RE: Open sessions in Dublin From: MartinRyan Date: 09 Feb 03 - 02:05 PM Careful! The Góilín is currently in Mayes, as mentioned above - not the Trinity Inn. Check out the club HERE Regards |

Subject: RE: Open sessions in Dublin From: GUEST Date: 09 Feb 03 - 09:13 PM Cool Noreen, I didn't know they had a website! Thanks! Sorry for the bum steer about location, there Allan. Hope you get it sorted so you can go. |

Subject: RE: Open sessions in Dublin From: Declan Date: 10 Feb 03 - 04:59 AM Allan, As well as the Goilin, which you'll enjoy, I know that Niamh Parsons is doing a gig in the Pavillion Theatre in Dun Laoghaire on Thursday 13th. I don't know if its a solo gig or what the details are but there may be more info on www.niamhparsons.com. |
Subject: RE: Open sessions in Dublin From: Allan Dennehy Date: 10 Feb 03 - 11:09 PM Thanks again folks. Declan, I played with Niamh Parsons in Copenhagen a couple of years ago, if I'm in Dublin on Thurs. I'll try to make it. |
Subject: RE: Open sessions in Dublin From: Declan Date: 13 Feb 03 - 11:59 AM Allan, Just in case you get to read this, I've checked with Niamh's site and her Dun Laoghaire concert tonight has been cancelled. She is appearing in the Seamus Ennis Centre in the Naul in North Co Dublin tomorrow night (Fri 14th), but its not quite as accessible as Dun Laoghaire, at least by public transport. |
