Subject: Name That Band From: GUEST Date: 10 Feb 03 - 07:56 PM Our band is about ready to require a name and I'd really appreciate any interesting suggestions - there must be more than a few good ones out there. We've been working on sort of an alt. country set list with lots of older material by Gram Parsons (I'm kind of partial to "The Gram Parsons Project" but others don't seem as convinced.) We're also doing some Lucinda Williams, George Jones, Whiskeytown...There are 7 of us currently under the working title "The Migrants" (which I'm not so sure about). Hopefully some of you can check us out in the Toronto area sometime this spring and summer. Thanks folks. Steve. |

Subject: RE: Name That Band From: GUEST Date: 10 Feb 03 - 08:19 PM Thanks Murray but that fine name has been taken by another Ontario band - and that band really lives up to the fine name too. |

Subject: RE: Name That Band From: Cluin Date: 10 Feb 03 - 08:37 PM Gordon Lightfoot mentioned a band called "The Intended" in one of his older songs. I don't think the group really existed. He's playin' up in Michigan in a group the call "THE INTENDED"... |
Subject: RE: Name That Band From: michaelr Date: 10 Feb 03 - 08:45 PM How about the Hot Burritos? Hickory Windjammers? I played in a band for a while called the Frozen Burrito Brothers... FrozBroz for short. Cheers, Michael |
Subject: RE: Name That Band From: GUEST,longarm Date: 11 Feb 03 - 02:50 AM This came up in a thread last year when I thought up 'Lords Of The Ringpulls' I was quite pleased with that!. Don't think anyone used it. |
Subject: RE: Name That Band From: Bullfrog Jones Date: 11 Feb 03 - 10:51 AM The Georgia Peaches? Seriously, though, I'd be careful about identifying yourself too closely with any artiste, even one as influential as Gram, unless you're going down the full-blown tribute band route. It sounds like you've got a good mix of influences, so I'd go for something more generic. BJ |

Subject: RE: Name That Band From: Ian Date: 11 Feb 03 - 11:53 AM How about GRAMPAR'S SONS? |
Subject: RE: Name That Band From: ced2 Date: 11 Feb 03 - 11:56 AM Hmm, once formed a staff band in a secondary school where I was teaching. One of the members thoughtup a really good name and it would in some senses have matched the mid-atlantic sort of Folk/C&W material we were doing. The headteacher played the veto so we finished up calling ourselves "The Soggy Mountain Few". Had a good time but it would have been much more fun if we were to have played under the original name of "Snotty and the Nose Pickers" |
Subject: RE: Name That Band From: GUEST Date: 11 Feb 03 - 07:23 PM Stray Americans, Wheat Loafers, Mississippi Musers, The Fly Swatters, Heartland Harpies, The Crawdads, Conestoga Canada, Alberta Bounds, The Bison, The Rhinestones, Cattleman's Crease(refers to a type of hat worn by 'gentleman ranchers' in Texas...check out old pictures of Hank Williams, Sr. It's the type of hat he wore.). These are names that just popped into my mind as while reading this post. Good luck, as choosing a name can be difficult. The above poster is correct. Stay away from identifying yourself to closely with any one artist. |
Subject: RE: Name That Band From: GUEST,Cluin Date: 12 Feb 03 - 01:28 PM Some rejected band names here. When you pick one, you can register it here. (if you see the point in that) |

Subject: RE: Name That Band From: GUEST Date: 12 Feb 03 - 03:12 PM ..ooops - scratch that last post. There's already a band by that name, from Newfoundland. |
Subject: RE: Name That Band From: Jim Colbert Date: 12 Feb 03 - 04:52 PM Doesn't Kevin Welch and cronies also use Dead Reckoners as their name when they play together (as well as their label?) jpc |
