Hi there,

I have looked to no avail really for a decent site or two that might have some beginning dulcimer music so I can print it off...

Also I was wondering about decent software I could getthat maybe I could add songs...and maybe convert it to dulcimer notes/tabs?

Or would that matter?

Thanks everyone.

Hi there !
I've only recently started playing dulcimer, too. Here's a great website with lots of material on it :Everything Dulcimer

It has tabs, chords for tunes and songs in DAD and DAA tunings, also a discussion forum, chatroom, soundfiles, beginners' section.. everything.

There is also a lot of dulcimer information (and dulcimer players) here on Mudcat - if you search under "dulcimer" you will find lots here, too.

Have fun !

Also,Yet Another Digital Trad. Scroll down until you find the alpha list for songs with tunes. After you find a tune there is a Dulcimer Tab link.

Contact Tom Richardson at tom@dulcimer.ca
He has a website which can be easily accessed via Google ---"dulcimer.ca"
The man is a phenomenon;plays and builds dulcimers, makes bodhrans, plays sax, plays bagpipes, plays whistle and gawd knows what else!
I told him very recently about mudcat.

If you're wanting free software that you can use to write dulcimer tab music, you can download a trial version at www.tabledit.com I've downloaded it and it looks good, but I haven't yet tried using it.

I understand that different people learn in different ways. There's no one size fits all approach to learning a musical instrument.

I also have a friend who is a truly awesome dulcimer player who is almost incapable of learning a tune unless she sees it.

BUT,

At least try learning tunes by ear. If you can do it you will gain the freedom to do anything on the dulcimer that you feel like doing. You won't have to wait for someone else to do it first.
