Subject: Folklore: The Farriers From: Peterr Date: 14 Feb 03 - 05:39 PM Anyone out there, including the Brices, Chris Gailey, and Jim Beaufoy, remember the amazing nights we had at the Talbot,White Hart, and Cloud 9 (best forgotten though we did have the Blackpool Taverners) Sad thing that I am, I still sing Farriers versions of Tom a Bedlam (as does my daughter), Holmbank, Shaking of the Sheets (much better than Maddy Priors version)Sweep Chimney Sweep (ditto) and who who ever witnessed it will forget Johnny Deakin having a crack at Thne Bromsgrove Boar. Allan Jackson gave us his LP when we left for Cornwall - the McCalmans tried to re-create Kilgarrie Mountain but realised they could never rival the real thing. Anyone fancy some reminiscing? |

Subject: RE: Folklore: The Farriers From: Zany Mouse Date: 25 Jul 03 - 06:59 AM Not sure if Jim is still on the folk scene. Last I heard of him (some years ago now) he had thrown all his energy into Staffordshire Bull Terriers - breeding and rescue. ZM |
Subject: RE: Folklore: The Farriers From: Peterr Date: 25 Jul 03 - 07:33 AM I recall that Jim had Staffs 30 years back. Also I think someone said he wasn't in fact that keen on folk! I've discovered the Brices are still in Gloucestershire and I think still singing. There was a possibility of getting them to Alcester this year, but it fell through. I'd have made a long trip to see them. |
